Before the upgrade to Plus, when you installed the free version, were things working as they were supposed to?I recently installed vesion 2.8.2 on my Windows XP PC (bought in 2004), and upgraded to Plus. I have yet to be able to 1) link the Desktop to my Tivo Account, 2) be able to see anything the the Now Playing list on my PC. I am not the most computer savvy person out there, but I'm not a dummy, and I cannot figure this one out. Can anyone offer suggestions on this one?
a corrupted cache file or a corrupt *.tivo file can do this. clear out the cache and give it extra time to rebuild the cache on startup afterward. If it is still hung after say maybe 30 minutes, then kill it move all the files out of the My TiVo recording folder and restart it. If it comes right up, one of those files is corrupt, find out which one by putting them back in the folder in small groups.Sometimes, for whatever reason, 2.8.2 hangs when I fire it up. So I fire up taskmgr, kill it, and try again. Sometimes it takes 4+ tries before it works. No idea why. This happens on an XP Pro workstation with gigs of RAM and terabytes of disk. <Shrugs shoulders> Try killing off the process, waiting a few, then trying again. Repeat.
So, did you start with the free version and make sure it was working properly before buying the "upgrade"?After spending the weekend on the forum and after trying many of the great suggestions here, I have come to the conclusion that it will just not work on my PC. I found the method of connecting to my TiVo box through the https-method works brilliantly. If anyone is having trouble downloading shows from their TiVo to their PC, I would HIGHLY recommend this method over Tivo Desktop. It is so much easier! A program to convert the .tivo file to an mpeg file, and burn the conversion, and bam! you have a DVD of your tivo show. Now my next big fight is to contact Tivo customer service for a refund.
