IN case your curious . . .

My Linsys wireless G, only worked for the one update, then I lost the connection. I went on ebay last night and purchased a D-Link Wireless that is on the "tivo approved" list. I am to the point of curiousity more than anything else. I have a bad habit of being a gadget hound.

Make sure the TiVo wireless adapter (or for that matter any wireless adapter) is not sitting near the TiVo receiver (per instructions) to avoid signal interference.

I am assuming that you activated your TiVo service prior to installing the network adapter and have followed the instructions on page 112 of your User's Guide for wireless set-up.

When you visit TiVo Central, you'll be able to see that your wireless settings are registered. You might have to wait an hour or so for them to show-up though.

I too have a Linksys model WBT54G Wireless Router and it works great!

My only problem is converting existing .wma music formats to .mp3!

Any suggestions?

As for the OP, since you got an unsupported adapter to at least work for a short time, it seems obvious that you've received a bad adapter. As for reading into the agent's question, they're told to ask this in order to clarify the situation....something that may require disconnecting the adapter or even restarting the DVR...again, this does not seem to apply in your situation.

Deeva_lee, need more info.
What models are each of your units (TSN starting with 140, 240, 264, 275, 540, 565, 590?) and which SW version is each running?
For the "bad" unit, has it ever had an adapter connected and working with the current version of SW?

thanks TivoJerry. I sent the USB Wireless unit back, to much stress.

Enjoy Alviso, I grew up in Cupertino . . remember that whole area back in the 70's and 80's when it was all countryside and farmlands. You cant beat the weather in the bay area.

I find it so funny that even though it's guaranteed to work with a Tivo Series 2 (vesion 7.2xxxx whatever) and you get it and it's as usless as the other 12 off the shelf adaptors you tried previously.

Why can't they just install a standard NIC card and be done with it? Or have a built in wireless connection.

Ok, yes the tivo had an wireless adaptor attached already.
They are both the same tivo.
the most current software. 7.2.1oth.. ro whateever it is..
TSN is 540

Both have been using one adaptor for a little while.. We would move the adapter back and forth between tivos no problem. We finally decided we wanted the room to room transfers, so we ordered teh TIVO wireless card. It did NOT work on one of the units, but worked fine(plug and play, no reboot) with the other.

Both units have not had any problems connecting to the network with tthe netgear w1111 network card.

Frustrating isn't it. I was going insane trying to get it to work. I ordered a D-Link wireless B over Ebay . . going to give it one last shot. If that does not work then I am giving up on TIVO2GO. I was kind of hoping to cancel my home phone and save some money there.

I've sent you a PM with something I'd like you to try. If it doesn't work (as I suspect that it won't), I'd like the opportunity to work with you directly to receive logging to better understand what is going on with this particular unit.

Man, I feel your pain.. I had a little Linksys wireless B adapter that was working perfect.

Thought I would go to G for faster downloads and uploads, see this great new TiVo adapter that's easy and handy, so I plunk down $50 and order it up...

Plug it in, it works for one download... Now I'm sitting here watching the network screen in TiVo... the signal goes from 48% to 74% to "none".... sometimes it will show no network adapter present. I have the 7.2.1-oth-01-2-540 software.

Plugging in the Linksys again works perfect. I'm typing this post from a laptop on the same wireless network, while listening to mp3s, on that same network. Guess I'll be sitting on hold with TiVo for a replacement as well... disappointing...

Have any of you who have been experiencing problems with your 'g' connections tried changing the channel on which your router/access point communicates? I'm wondering if other devices sharing the radio frequency band might be causing interference. Corldless phones, wireless keyboards, etc. This could be particularly a problem in apartments or places where other wireless devices might interfere with your signal. I know it's a long shot, but sometimes little changes can make a big difference.

As an aside, it's ridiculous how picky these Tivos are re: equipment. There are only a handful of 'g' wireless devices supported. This is hardly new technology....

Where can you change the wireless channel on the TiVo network? I see where I can on every other wireless device I have.... still won't help when it randomly says "no network adapter available"...

I thought that unless your network is set up as an ad hoc network, the channel the setting on your router/access point would determine the channel on which the network ran. I think a 'g' wireless card will find any available channel of a 'g' network. If you change the channel setting on the router and you still have the occasional drop-out of signal, then it hasn't helped.

Hey Steve, go ahead and order it... On the advice of TivoJerry I switched my wireless channel and it works awesome, very fast. Strangely even the "no network adapter present" that I was intermittently getting has apparently gone away as well. I'm not sure how changing the wireless channel would affect the TiVo even forgetting it has an adapter present, but apparently it has and I guess I've seen stranger things.
