Trouble transferring to PC

Hello! I am a plug n play person, so I am trying to use TiVo Desktop to transfer files from my Series 2 SA units to my laptop. I am returning to the UK for school and of course, TiVo Desktop has stopped transferring. I am wondering if I copy my TiVo HdDs and take then with me, can I use the copy as an external and watch the shows or will I need to convert the copied files?

Btw, the TiVo's transfer to each other and connect to the TiVo service. And of course, I am connected to the internet.

Thanks for any help!
Oh, I'm using a laptop running win7 and the TiVo just stopped w only 5 mbs of a show left to transfer.

Thanks!

Copying the Tivo HD won't work as far as trying to get the recordings from it. Tivo Desktop is iffy so try something like Tivo2Go.
You would not be able to decode the tivo drive unless its running in the tivo itself.

Have you tried rebooting the Tivo?

TiVoToGo is the name of the service. Some refer Tivo Desktop as TiVoToGo.

Sorry, the correct name of the actual SW I was referring to is kmttg.

Give your laptop and the TiVo a fixed IP address. Can't hurt, might help.
