Trouble Transfering to one of my TiVOs

1500 Views 12 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  supie
I have 2 HD TiVOs and they have same firmware same everything and are both hooked into same router. Only difference is one has lifetime subscription.

Problem is the lifetime is constantly giving me trouble when it comes to Pushing Streaming and downloading. I can Netflix no problem. I've rebooted everything several times and same ole same. Every blue moon it'll work but no rhyme or reason.

For a while it seemed like files would transcode to Lifetime but would push native to other. Now lifetime unit won't accept push at all - blue light comes on name shows up but never transfers....

Any ideas?

Check your ToDo list and remove the entries for the transfers, then restart the Tivo. Re-do the transfers.
checked my "to do" and none were stuck. I did clear and reboot but same problem. StreamBaby was so slow but went to bedroom and worked like a charm... very frustrating.
Sometimes you can get a "stuck" transfer that doesn't show up in the To Do List or the history because it's stuck in limbo. It's not in the TDL because the transfer is "in progress" and it's not in the history because it's not "finished" or hasn't "failed" yet.
Something else you can try...
  • Go to your TiVo account and under DVR preferences, disable downloads and transfers (uncheck the boxes) on the Tivo with the problem and save the change.
  • Allow some time for the TiVo servers to get your updated info (2-4 hours maybe ??).
  • On the Tivo with the problem, force a connection to the TiVo service (or just wait for the Tivo to call in on its own).
  • Verify that the change has taken effect. Go to the system info screen on the Tivo and look for the ''TiVoToGo'' line. It should read " i,i,i ".
  • Reboot the Tivo (this step is probably not necessary, just something I would do).
  • Once that is done, go back to your TiVo account and re-enable downloads and transfers.

This should flush out a stuck transfer (if you have one).

I was really thinking this would do the trick but still slowwwww.

I did realize there is one more difference in the TiVOs - Slow Lifetime unit has a cable card.
update: file sizes are ok once fully transferred its just slow transfer speed. Real strange part is this all worked fine months till one day it just slowed down. Speed is the problem, I can see speeds on bedroom unit are normal but living room crawls....
Give everything on your home network that doesn't travel a fixed IP address.

Can't hurt, might help.
gave everything a fixed ip not mobile in our house. then I rebooted every single item and still slow.... blows my mind.

But at least it didn't make things worse, right?
no sir.... thanks for helping
I didn't even test bedroom TiVO till last night and speed doubled to it! Thanks!
This Lifetime unit is frustrating me to no end..... I have no clue what to try next...

Are both units connected to the router non-wirelessly? That is, do you have CAT5 run to both of them?

If so, move the bedroom TiVo to the living room and the living room TiVo to the bedroom and see if the slowness follows the TiVo or stays with the room.
On a Series 3 you can check how fast the transfers are by going to MENU > MESSAGES & SETTINGS > SETTINGS > PHONE & NETWORK > VIEW NETWORK DIAGNOSTIS > TRANSFER HISTROY > 3. INCOMING or 4. OUTGOING SERIES 3 TRANSFER

When working right, I had a transfer speed from my bedroom S3, which is hardwired, for a half hour HD show @ 3,362 took 16 Minutes 13 Seconds @ 28.90 Mb/s.

The same show took 11 Minutes 26 Seconds @ 40.96 Mb/s. from my bedroom S3 to my office S3.
