Question about transferring Lifetime Service please. I just sold my TiVo HD. Is it necessary to call? Or will it just work for the new owner?

You need to call and tell them you sold it and they will give you a case number to share with the buyer.

Just to be clear, your existing box with Lifetime WILL continue to work for the buyer without you doing anything - but that would be a bad idea. You want to call TiVo to get the box off of your account. As noted above, the process is very simple.

I have called in the past, but last TiVo I sold this past year my buyer was able to transfer to their account without me calling.

They used to do that several years ago. Then they started cracking down. It doesn't seem likely that someone would steal a Tivo and then identify themselves as the thief by adding a stolen Tivo to their account. On the other hand, would law enforcement even peruse investigating this matter? They would probably tell the the owner that it was a civil matter and it probably would not be worth perusing in court. Maybe if it was a cable edge with lifetime service.

Tivo did this for TiVo Bolt I sold June of 2020, so back to old ways I guess.
