I used to be able to transfer from my Bolt to my Series 3 via the Series 3 interface. For about the last month that no longer works. Tivo No Customer Service said that it never worked since, according to them, you can't transfer between different software versions. I know it worked for about a year. Is this now a depreciated feature?

The error on the Series 3 is in the attached screen shot.

This is false, as you can.

If your bolt is on Hydra/v21/TE4, then it possibly means you can't. With v21, you have to use online.tivo.com to initiate the transfers between Tivos and Series 3 are no longer supported and no longer listed online. (This is mostly for transfers to Bolt.)

For a start, Have you tried rebooting everything? Meaning, to shut off everything from modem to all connected devices on the network. Power on the modem, wait until it is operational again, then repeat with each other device, router, etc.

Yup, I see the same thing (just tested it). It seems this is just one more dishonest thing that Bad_Rovi is doing to try and strangle all the old Series3 boxes so that customers who paid the high prices for them with lifetime will finally give up and throw them away.

It has been several months since the last time I copied something to my THD from the test Bolt running Horrible Hated Hydra, but I have done if fairly regularly all year without problems. Today, I can still see the now playing list of programs on that box from my S3, but any attempt to transfer a program gets the same error that you see. The same S3 still has absolutely NO problems transferring programs either direction with my other Bolt still running the much better TE3 software, so it is NOT a network problem.

TE3 to TE3 works fine.

Does anyone know if TE3 will be discontinued? That would be a sad day.

Wonder if this is related to the reports that some users are having with not being able to download shows as well with TiVo Desktop any more since seems to be similar symptoms where you can see the list of shows but get an error when you try to download (or transfer in your case). I believe they are reporting they can still download with pyTivo Desktop though.

I have not rebooted everything but I think the fact that V7Goose has confirmed the issue I am seeing makes it unlikely that will help. I have rebooted both Tivos.

Thanks for confirming what I am seeing and that there is probably not much I can do about it.

Tangentially, per TiVo_Ted here, "to my knowledge we have no plans to block downgrades from TE4 to TE3. To be clear, this is only on boxes that are capable of supporting TE3. For instance, the upcoming TiVo EDGE will only support TE4 and beyond. It will never be able to be downgraded to TE3."

Good clarity of Edge; not on my Christmas list....

Even with the original release of Horrible Hydra, we could still transfer shows from a box running that terrible software to a Series3 on the same account. This new change shutting off that capability is absolutely ONLY blamed on Bad_Rovi.

The problem with TiVos no longer being able to see (and pull from) PCs running TiVo Desktop is due to expired certificates of some sort.

Go here

"Now Playing List Not Available"

and get you some new 10 year certificates, courtesy of some of our local TiVo Heroes.

That is one issue but there is a different issue being reported with the latest TE4 update where users can see the TiVo and the listings (no certificate issue) but they get an error when they try to download.

pyTiVo still copies programs from my Bolt running the newest crippled software. I suppose it is only a matter of time before Bad_Rovi closes that door too.
