Two part issue, need guidance...

My father bought a TiVo a few years back (Roamio, lifetime) and put it in a vacation home. Due to age/illness, my parents no longer use the house, and have turned it over to me to manage/maintain. I'd like to put the TiVo in my name and on my account, as it makes it easier to manage remotely. My dad is happy to help in any way he can to make this happen.

Bullet points:
* He also has other TiVos at his primary residence, and I don't want to do anything to them.
* I have TiVos at my residence, and want to add this remote one to my current account.
* Obviously, this new TiVo is on a different (wifi) network than my current TiVos.

How do I do this? And any issues because the TiVo I want to transfer into my name is not at my primary physical location?

Thanks.

The official method is for your father to call customer support with the TSN and tell them that he's transferring ownership to someone else. They will give him a code number for you to use when you call in to have it moved to your account. The location shouldn't matter.

Your father can also do this via the website chat, which I find to be much easier than calling. I transferred a box to my sister using my account to get the reference number, then logged into her account the next day to finalize the transfer all via chat.

Funny you mention this, right after my reply above, I went to the TiVo web site to get the phone # for my dad. And I saw CHAT, but then I saw this...

I just used chat yesterday to transfer my Tivo to someone else.

and here's what it says on the webpage for me:

Please note: At this time, it is not
possible to use chat or email to
cancel TiVo service or to update
billing and credit card information
.
Thank you for your understanding.

Weird you would be seeing something else but maybe difference between a mobile website and desktop website?

It has changed. Last time my credit card changed I used the web site. It used to say you couldn't cancel service on the web site until next year. That was there for several years. There was never anything about transfers.

I just checked. I could change my CC info. But one thing confuses me. What is:

The chat note is different depending on where you click to get to it.

If you click "Contact Us" in the 4th column at the bottom, you get the note about not being able to cancel or transfer service via chat.

If you click "Customer Support" under the 2nd column, the note says you can't cancel service via chat.

It does work via chat. I just transferred service on a unit to my account. I've had the unit connected to my home network for a few weeks.

I first tried to transfer to via phone, and they asked me to email them proof of ebay purchase. I then went through chat instead and they transferred it in just a few minutes, without needing the proof of purchase.
