"transfer service not running"

ok, I have windows media xp, downloaded and installed tivo desktop. transferred a couple of shows no problem. now I can't start the desktop, it says transfer service not running.

checked my account, tranfers are allowed, turned off norton internet security ( although this wasn't an issue the first time) uninstalled tivo to go and reinstalled it and still get the same error.

can someone offer any advice to correct this? I don't feel like getting on the phone for an hour for them to tell me to turn off my internet security and go through the motions of what I already did.
