I recently replaced a series 2 with a bolt.I have another series 2 as well. the series 2 can see the bolt (although I'm not certain it can transfer files), but the bolt can't see the series 2. Or perhaps I'm not looking in the right place. I'm in the "My Shows" then "Devices". It says there are no compatible devices on my network.

How can I transfer recordings from the series 2 to the bolt?

It sounds like the Bolt is running v21.+ (AKA Hydra). This version has disabled all transfers from legacy devices (Older than Premiere) to the Bolt. Online.tivo.com would be the only way to get transfers otherwise.

That is news to me, but I'm new to the series 3 devices. Does anyone know the rationale for this?

BTW - I tried using online, but it also only sees the Bolt, not the series 2, so transfers that way don't seem possible either. I suppose I could use cTiVo to get the s-2 files then possibly upload them using some technique - ftp? But that is a lot more trouble than just using the TiVo itself to transfer - why would that facility be removed?

Without mods, shows can be transferred to/from the Series 2, 3, 4, 5, with exception of the software hydra (v21) in Series 5, 6,7. Premiere are Series 4, Roamio are 5, Bolts 6, Edge 7.
Otherwise, shows can be transferred to a computer using various programs such as KMTTG, PyTivo.

The complexity is when you mod these devices to do things that are already capable of doing (ie. transfers).
