My Toshiba SD-H400 has been crashing a lot lately, and now it won't boot at all. I have power cycled it many times, but when I try to power it up now I get the "Welcome, powering up..." screen for about 30 seconds and then it gets stuck on the "Almost There. Just a Few Minutes More..." screen indefinitely.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

I opened up the case. It's a Maxtor drive. I don't know how to run diagnostics on the drive, but searching through the forums I see that many of the Maxtor drives are dying after about 2 years. Mine lasted almost 4 years. I will probably just end up replacing the drive. Hopefully that will give me a working Tivo.

Mine just started doing this too. I thought it was the hard drive (I had upgraded it three years ago) so I put in the original 80 GB hard drive. It was working until it downloaded the updates, now I get the same "Welcome, powering up..." screen for about 30 seconds and then it gets stuck on the "Almost There. Just a Few Minutes More..." screen indefinitely.

I'm wondering if Tivo pushed down an update recently? FYI both drives are Maxtor's and recently went back to Tivo Basic on this thing.
Funny thing, I noticed there are two other threads with same problems.

I also have a Toshiba SD-h400.. and had the exact same crashes and power-up problems. I also heard the hard drive spinning up and making odd clicking sounds.

I wrote to the guys at weaknees.com and one of their techs agreed that it was a hard drive issue. I ordered a drop-in replacement drive and it booted just fine.

Make sure you pick the correct drive image when you order from weaknees.com.

Good luck

It appears that the hard drive was the problem. I replaced the original 80 GB maxtor drive with a new 300 GB seagate replacement kit from weaknees, and my Tivo is working again. This may or may not be related, but while I was editing the channel listing the Tivo did throw error 86 a couple of times, and another time it gut stuck and required a reboot. Since the reboot it has been working fine.

Hello all, does anyone have a useable image for the Toshiba SD-H400? I was looking to buy one in need of new drive but will need an image to make the copy. I would of course pay for shipping for a copy on disc (if that's possible).

Also, can I use any IDE drive in the unit?

Thanks,
Mark

I suggest you get Instantcake
You can download it for $20 and it works like a champ. Make sure you get the SD-H400 version then just follow directions. I've upgraded all 3 of my SD-H400s with it.

Yes any IDE will work with the unit. Go for your best deal.
