Just saw that BBC America is finally going to start to air episodes of Top Gear. It looks like from the episode descriptions they're starting with episodes from season 8 (I think that's the episode where the Stig first took the Koenigsegg CCX around their track).

I used to watch these. I love 'em! "Fifth Gear", which is a lot of the old staff minus Jeremy Clarkson I think, is also pretty good.

What year, roughly, does this season correspond to? It's just not very interesting watching 5 year old auto reviews, and IMDB seems to be no help here with the seasons.

I think the Season 8 episodes started to air in May 2006. Season 9 was the most recent and those episodes aired in the UK at the beginning of this year.

My understanding is that these episodes on BBC America will be the full episodes- not edited or adjusted for the US (like the run of Top Gear that was on the Discovery Channel a while back).

I could, but I'd have to kill you!

Seriously, it's basically a car show, but it's a lot more than that. It's highly irreverent and entertaining because ofthe presenters.

As well as the (un)usual car reviews, you'll see supercars, soccer with minis, races across Europe between a Bugatti Veyron and a light aircraft and much, much more.

Richard Hammond, one of the presenters, was seriously injured last year. While testing a jet car, it crashed at about 300mph leaving him with serious head injuries. He fully recovered and noted the only lasting side effect was that he now liked celery!!

Could you explain the premise of Top Gear?
Top Gear is a show about cars, but a lot of it is irreverent, off-beat takes on what you might expect to see in a car show. For instance, a couple of memorable segments from the show include turning a Reliant Robin (subcompact car) into a space shuttle and taking Porsches purchased for less than £1500 on a road race across England. I'm fairly certain they also include legitimate stories, like your typical test drives of new cars, but I'm pretty sure a lot of the interest in the show is the stories like the above, plus the camaraderie between the hosts.

A few other memorable episodes: is it safe to be in a car that's struck by lightning and the one where they left a car fully submerged in the ocean for several hours and then tried to get it running again.

Was it Top Gear that tried to destroy a Toyota Diesel Pickup?

It involved among other things, leaving on the beach until high tide covered it, imploding a building with the truck on the top floor, lighting it on fire, and the truck was able to get started each time?

My favorite segment of Top Gear was the one where Jeremy spent two days running a Jaguar diesel around the Nurburgring (sp?) to see if he could get a lap time of less than 10 minutes and barely did it. Then a young French women went out in the same car and did it at almost a full minute less then he did on her first try.

And after that she did it in a delivery van. (in 10:08)

We just watched 2 episodes of Top Gear I recorded a few days ago. We laughed so hard we had pains. It has to be one of the craziest shows on TV. This show they cut the top off a Mini Van and try to make it into a convertible with leather and plastic windows. Then they had to drive it a 100 mph to see if it held up. LOL then it was a trip through a animal park with Lions and Monkeys. LOL the final test was takeing it thru a carwash that can duplicate a class 5 hurricane, and that was so funny we about died from laughing. You all have to watch these crazy brits.

I have seen two episodes of this now and it is side-splitting funny! One of the episodes was about them repaving a road in 24 hours. In the middle of the night, Jeremy set up speakers and started blasting out Thatcher speeches to motivate the workers... Hilarious!

The show is histerical. I am SO glad they are running the un-cut episodes! The "american-ized" ones they had were aweful. :( They cut out all the best parts so it wouldn't be so rude.

I love the unconventional races, like the bobsled vs the Evo rally car. The Z06 vs the burning line of gasoline (petrol. ;) ) Bullet Train vs. the Aston Martin.

Great show!

The BBCA version of Top Gear is incomplete. You completely miss the hilarious news segment, and main segments are cut short here and there to accomodate advertising.

Finalgear.com has full episodes. Before you start complaining about downloading the show and copyrights and such, Finalgear.com sent Richard Hammond a helmet and got a thank you letter back after his injury.

How about the episode where they all go on a caravan (RV/travel trailer) vacation? That was about the funniest tv you'll ever see, especially the ending when Jeremy accidentally set fire to his trailer and caused a major conflagration.

Jesda: Excellent find on that web site. I didn't even realize we weren't getting complete episodes here. No big surprise though I guess. Plus, the web site has not only Top Gear, but Fifth Gear as well. Nice.
