Hi all,

How do I compress Tivo episodes downloaded onto my Mac via TivotoGo (Toast v8.0.1) to fit onto one DVD?? I am recording a daily soap for my folks, who are out of town, and each episode comes out to ~2.3-2.4GB. Using Toast, that will only allow me to fit one episode onto each blank single-layer 4.7GB DVD! Since it appears that the "Fit-to-DVD" option is not available for Tivo'ed shows, and I can't edit the downloaded episodes.... how do I do this? I would prefer not to put each episode on individual DVDs. Please help!

One thing you might want to do is to start recording the daily soap in Basic quality which will make the recordings about 700MB in size.

I see that the Toast folks are now including TiVoToGo with their Popcorn product as well (and Popcorn is a lower cost product). Popcorn is used to compress regular DVD products onto a single layer DVD. I don't know if it will do the same with TiVoToGo files though...

A simple, but time consuming way to do this is to just burn a "Disc Image" of the disc in Toast. This doesn't require a DVD, it just makes a "virtual DVD" on your HD. It's only limited by the amount of room you have free on your HD.

Once that's done, you can go in and tell Toast to "copy" that disc image, but to compress it so that it'll fit on one DVD. *That's* when you burn it to a DVD.

Thanks bedelman & cnsayre! I lowered the quality of the recordings, which has gotten the indiv episodes to 1.7gb. I also saved the "Disc Image" to my hard drive, but when I try and "copy" the disc image, I keep getting an error message that says the dvd is encrypted with CSS technology and I cannot burn it using Toast. ??? Help???
