I do this all the time. I think about upgrading and then eventually decide I’m fine with my Roamio Pro with lifetime service. I use my Apple TV for streaming so this feature isn’t a big deal for me. I use cTivo to download shows I want to sync or stream or keep and use Plex for this. I guess I kind of have a system in place.

But I recently moved to a larger place and finally upgraded my TV - the beautiful Samsung 60” Q80. My previous TV was 42” and 5 years old at this point. Obviously, the picture quality is much better on the new TV. It also has the Xfinity Beta app so I have access to some on demand content again!

Is it time to upgrade the TiVo for better picture quality at this point? I’m not too mad about it but noticeable enough on the larger, nicer TV that I’m considering an upgrade. From what I’ve read the new Edge is much better than the Bolt so that may be a place to save a little $. Anyway, happy to hear some thoughts from other TiVo users as I weigh this.

I'm not sure you'll get any benefit upgrading the DVR. Tivos record and output what they receive, and recordings likely won't look any better than what your TV is doing to upscale the video.

If Comcast had 4K video you could record it might be more useful to upgrade.

That's a fair point. I also went from FiOS to XFinity, which in itself is a noticeable downgrade in picture quality. Thank you for the input.

That takes the only reason to upgrade away, FiOS has 2 QAM 4K channels the Bolt and above can record, Comcast does not use QAM for their 4K content.
