I hope no one cares that I started new thread.

My Dell came with Vista home premium installed.
I download the tivo 2.5 desktop and everything goes fine till I get to the installation window which tells me it is "updating system, the software is being installed". it just stops. doesn't do anything the bar in that window shows nothing. No error messages nothing it just sits there. Even letting run for 3hrs!!! I even tried with firewalls disabled which I hate to leave my computer vunerable. I run as administator.

I have called Tivo and they have no idea what is going on. I was on the phone with tivo for 90min.

Since then I have got the following error log trying to figuir this out.

There is more and available if it might help. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? It has installed on another factory installed home premium laptop but not mine.

Someone suggested I needed to add some kind of extender in media center. They gave me this thread but the page didn't exist. 'Windows Media Center Extender Technology'.

I know nothing about this and how to go about it if it would work.
You may want to try installing with UAC disabled --- easy instructions available if Googled. If I had to guess, I bet something was locked down that the installer needed access to.

This sounds like the same problem that I've had. Installer locks up -- no messages, no progress bar movement, nada.

I spent a few hours trying to diagnose the problem looking at logs and turning UAC on and off and whatnot, but eventually gave up. The Tivo processes seem idle, so I suspect that it's deadlocked on something -- either waiting for some system event that never happens, or it tried to popup an invisible window. Who knows; I have better things to do than debug Tivo's broken installer and Microsoft's broken operating system.

So you're not alone, but the situation does appear to be rare. So far I think there are only 3-4 of us, including you, that I have seen report the problem.

ACraigL Thank you so much!!!! Disabling UAC worked. I did a google search under Disable UAC and got the directions to do it and Tivo installed. I did a test run of Tivo before I enabled UAC again and Tivotogo ran fine Then I went back and enabled UAC. Now if you could help me again, After rebooting puter I tried running tivotogo and I get an error, transfer service not running. I did a search in this forum and didn't come up with anything. I ran tivo with administrative rights after trying to load it without adminastrative rights. Any ideas on what I do now?
After doing another search I found some info on transfer service I deleted tivo and ran the fixit for removing tivo traces I repeated the other steps I did previously and reinstalled tivotogo and everything seems to be working fine. Thanks again I am so appreciative.
