I feel bad b/c im sure this question has been asked a million times. My S2 i had working with my DirecTV just got stuck on the whole, "Welcome, powering up" screen or whatever it says at the beginning. I was going to try to replace the drive unless TiVoHD can record DirecTV HD with just a component input or something of that nature.

I've got a S2 hooked up to my DirecTV HD right now. It records fine but downgrades the picture which obviously sucks.

So....is it possible?

The TiVo HD works only with OTA and Cable (via CableCard). It is not compatible with an external STB such as a Dish or DirecTV receiver.

oh, so it won't even work with cable without a cablecard?
If you want it to record digital channels from cable with full TiVo functionality, yes, you need cablecard. It is possible to record some digital channels without cablecards, but the TiVo would not have the proper guide information and as such would have to be recorded manually.
