TivoHD Brand New Setup...

Hey guys,

Finally decided to go with the affordable TivoHD for the new condo that we're about to move into and ditch the ancient S1 that I've had for years (anybody wants to buy a S1 modded with a wireless adapter?). I have a couple of questions:

1) Does this new TiVo come with a trial subscription? The reason I ask is because I intend on buying the 3 year subscription, but won't until I am positive the TiVoHD works with Comcast (I'm here in Jersey City, NJ; please share horror stories).

2) I'm assuming the guided setup that the installers go through will need an active internet connection right? The installer is supposed to show up to 1) hook up my cable connection and 2) install the cable cards, so I won't even have internet service until Comcast activates the cable. I'm assuming the answer is yes, so I'll have to be ready to sign up for Comcast cable the moment he activates the outlet.

Thanks!

Hi,

See the following for the "official" Comcast Cable Card thread for more experiences that you will probably care to hear about.

Also, IIRC, I think you have 30 day return policy on the TiVo. So if you pay and then you can't get Comcast to work for whatever reason, you can return the TiVo for a refund.

1.I believe that it has a 7 day guide but no music or photos
2 you can do a few things A) if you have wireless modem you can see if any of your neighbors are kind enough to share their internet service :) B. You can hook it up to a phone line or C Run guided set up at your house now and just bring it to the condo the Techs dont need to run the set up right then

Good Luck

1. Ss long as I can try out the guide for 7 days, that's good enough for me.
2. So whatever the installers need to do actually won't need internet connectivity? That's great news because I do not have full confidence in Comcast's ability to have a truck roll for me that will fulfill cable install (new condo so the jacks need to be activated), cable modem install, and the cable card install all in one shot.

Thanks for the clarification Aztivo, and yes I will probably need all the luck I can get.

You should be able to activate your cable at the time the tech gets the install finished...

No, you'll not need an active internet to activate...

Yes, you can use your Tivo for 7 days after that the Tivo will not access any channels...

Until the card/cards are "paired" you will get channels 2 thru 99

First thing I'd ask the installer, is if he has installed any cable cards for a Tivo before...

Good Luck
