OK, that's cool and I'm happy for David Bott, I guess, but what about all the money we donated to get our own servers a few years back? Are the donators getting reimbursed with their share of the sale? Wishful thinking I'm sure, but I had to ask.

I helped a guy paint his garage a few years back and when he sold the place he had the nerve to keep all of the profit. Even that which was attributable to my painting. Unbelieveable!
I bought the paint. He paid me back.

You'll get back one chip from the board of the old Dell server which I am sure is no longer in service. Please provide $15 for shipping and handling.

With a join date of 2002, I'm not sure you've been around long enough to have participated in that donation. I'm certainly not expecting anything back.

Funny, but not real accurate.

Between the donations for new servers (which was long before I even knew what a Tivo was) to the TC store, to the paid entry TC Club it's been all about helping out to help the community - not to help David make a buck. Granted, he put in a lot of work to get this started, but I can't help shaking the feeling in the back of my mind that he's essentially profiting off of the work that all of us put into making this a community. Then reality sets in and I remember that it's his playground and he can do with it as he pleases.

it's been well known for several years that David ran this board as a for profit venture.

Clearly David worked hard on step 3..

...Profit!

and agreed, more power too him, getting paid to be involved with something you love is always a positive.

Oh, I know that he wasn't just doing this out of the goodness of his heart (as I'm sure that the news guys didn't buy this for any reason but to make money)! I was just saying that I can understand where the people that have given in the past are coming from.

Even in the ancient days of BBSs, equipment failed, needed to be upgraded. It was not uncommon to ask for donations to cover such costs. The user may never see the equipment, but we do benefit from it, and we are the ones who put wear and tear on it in our use. So for as much as I visit here I have no issue giving $30 a year, not gonna break my bank.
