I want TiVoCast d/ls to:

  • Give me the option for new d/ls to automatically overwrite the oldest

    Votes: 26 57.8%
  • Already exactly how I want it, I delete old shows in order to receive new d/ls once the KAM hits

Seems to me TivoCast subscriptions should work exactly like season passes.

It costs Tivo money for you do download shows. They don't want you download them and never watch them. Doubt they are going to change its current behavior, though I wish they would. :(

yes and what started the discussion that I think led to this poll is the inclusion of weather channel. Before that things like cranky geeks or rocketboom or whatever, those i would watch if they were 3 or 10 dyas old. they still had some relevancy. So setting keep at most to 5 or 10 was fine and I watched them as I got around to it. Now with weather channel if the show is two days old it has lost any relevancy to me. Now Iw ant to overwrite it much like I do with my news shows which are all set to "keep at most 1" So for now I have weather channel set to keep at most 10 but I am sure I will delete a lot of those unwatched.

So I can not answer this poll because I want both options for different types of shows or as jcthorne posted, i want the functionality of season passes.

I reluctantly accept the reasoning for them not wanting us to control the download supply, but I'm curious to know what TiVo customers really want.

TivoStephen, with all due respect, posted that he thinks the current method "is exactly the behavior that most of our customers want and prefer." So that is how this poll materialized.

That's what all consumer driven businesses say when they would rather say "because that's the way it is. End of discussion"

Reminds me of a story some 20/20 type show did many years ago when Ragu and Prego changed from 32oz jars to 30oz jars and kept the same price. Apparently the companies said that they only changed it because that's what the consumer wanted. Now they're down to 26½oz jars. I've heard several other companies use that same reasoning over the years. I have yet to meet even one of these consumers that wants to pay the same for less product.

The first choice is "Give me the option".
yah but I wanted it more specific - give me the option per TiVocast channel.

eg
CrankyGeeks - do not overwrite
Weather channel - overwrite

so I voted on #1 in your poll

Personally, I think reason it is the way it is now is because TiVo doesn't understand how to create an alternative that would make their customers and partners happy at the same time. So instead of innovating, they just make the system not very user friendly.

It wouldn't take much to add some logic into the system to tell if you have watched a TiVoCast. iTunes does this and will automatically disable podcasts that you don't ever listen too. I think this is the best way to to do it. It keeps TiVo from having to download TiVoCasts that users are no longer watching, yet still works how users expect them to work.

When I was getting TiVoCasts, I think that if you didn't watch/delete things and downloads stopped, but then later deleted things, that the downloads would resume from the current offering instead of the first back dated 'episode' that you had missed.

That to me was a big flaw. Is that still the case?
