Tivo Wireless N Adapter not working with mac filter on

I bought a Tivo Wireless N adapter for my Tivo Premier box (a rip off at $89.99!!) because I didn't have time to fiddle with a regular wireless adapter.

The wireless adapter works fine with regular WPA2-Personal encryption on my brand new Cisco e1000 wireless N router. However, when I add the mac filtering feature on the router, the Wireless N adapter doesn't work.

I tried the "push button" sync feature multiple times to pair the adapter with the router, but it won't work. I've tried pairing it manually. But if the mac filter feature is "on", the TIVO says it can't get a network connection. I've checked the mac address on the adapter several times, and I'm sure I've entered the correct address.

I want to be able to filter my mac addresses and enable ONLY the mac addresses in my house, including the TIVO Wireless N adapter.

Is this a defective feature of the Wireless N adapter? Should I just go buy a regular non-TIVO branded wireless adapter instead?

Only tivo brand adapters will work in the premiere.

I don't have a wireless adapter. I decided it would be better to get in my attic and run cat6 to my bedroom instead of pay $90. In retrospect, I'm not so sure. But I digress.

Are you sure you're using the right MAC? As I understand it, the N adapter works like a bridge, so it would have 2 MACs, one for the wireless and one for the wired. Make sure you're not allowing the wired MAC on your network.

Also, why are you using MAC filtering? You're already using WPA2, which is great. I'm assuming you have a strong password. And MACs are VERY easy to spoof.

TiVo Wireless N Adapter:

I have the exact answer for you as others are just wasting your time asking why do you need MAC filtering. You should keep your MAC filter as I do the same for my network and won't change it. It is a double layer of security on top of my WPA2.

I had the same issue after tinkering with it for hours but not giving up paid off. I had the same issue as you that the adapter would not configure with MAC filtering directly but it worked by taking this specific route below. This is what you need to do to make it work.

1. Disable your Router MAC filtering.
2. Press the Reset button on your TiVo adapter to ensure it is now factory setting. Also, set the adapter button as a Client not a Bridge.
3. Wait for the power light to go from amber to green.
2. Connect your wireless TiVo adapter to your PC and type 192.168.10.1. At the setup prompt Select your SSID network and put in your WPA2 password. The device should connect without problems since your MAC filtering is off.)
3. After you get a message connection successful and TiVo adapter showing Solid Green on the antenna, disconnect your ethernet cable and connect to your TiVo (your TiVo box should be On)
4. Go to your TiVo Network and Settings and Select Connect to TiVo Service. Your TiVo antenna should will still show solid green. Whilte Getting Info... do step 5 and 6.
5. Now get the 2 MACs:
A. MAC on the back of the TiVo Adapter.
B. MAC for yout TiVo under Network Settings
6. Add these MACs to your Router and Enable MAC Filtering.

After enabling, the TiVo adapter's antenna will blink green for a few seconds then turn to solid green. Now your connection is set with MAC Filtering. Enjoy!

This is the route I took that worked for me for MAC filtering. There may be a shortcut and others are welcome to put their input on this. Cheers!

Or take that $90 and get a wireless Bridge. Then you can connect several devices that need a network connection. Much more cost effect than getting the TiVo wireless N adapter.
