I now get this message when I try to transfer my video files to my Windows-10 computer:

"There was an error while attempting to retrieve data from the selected DVR. The network connection was aborted by the local system."

Everything was working fine until recently.

Is anyone else having this issue, and happen to how I can fix the problem? Is it possible that a recent Tivo upgrade broke the transfer feature?

This is causing me some stress!

Welcome to TE4/Hydra.

One option is to sidegrade back to TE3, but you will lose all of your recordings.

Check out kmttg.
I am in a catch 22: If I want the function back, I will lose all my present recordings. If I don't want to loose my recordings, then I can't revert back.

Sounds like you are saying, Tivo broke the function on purpose (even though we paid them for it)?

Also what is "kmttg" please?

Did you try to restart the Tivo?

As suggested above, there's still a solution: as TE4 doesn't eliminate the possibility of TiVo box -> PC transfers (just the other way around), transfer what you want to save to your PC (using pyTivo Desktop/pyTivo, kmttg, or TiVo Desktop); sidegrade the box back to TE3; and then transfer the shows back to the TiVo box (will work thru all the earlier software except kmttg). It takes time, but the box and your PC do the heavy lifting. And it works.

Hello, i have a series3 hd. Finally, after 3 weeks of non-stop TiVo to pc transfer using kmttg, I've recovered all my recordings. I bought a new we 2th purple drive, and images it, and TiVo is back up running. Put a new power supply and fan in also.
I'm ready to transfer a number of recordings back to the tivo and just can't figure how to do it. Don't have a TiVo desktop plus key. Kitty doesn't seem to do it. The version of pyTivo doesn't seem to do it. The share does show in the TiVo NPL. When i select a single show in not to transfer back, the blue light flashes but the transfer never starts.
What is the best way to transfer recordings (lots of them) from pc to tivo? It's it even possible?
If possible, please oh please provide links and info.
Thank you so much.

Tivo Desktop does not need the Plus Key to transfer back. That just adds other video types.
Since the blue light was on, but only a second, it sounds like the transfer server within the Tivo crashed and need to restart it.
PyTivo is also a program to use. (as well as TD)

Do not select too many shows to transfer back at one time. They can only transfer one at a time anyways. Select up to about 10 at a time. Be patient as transfers are slow on a Series 3.

Thanks for responding. Restarting the tivo allowed the TiVo pull transfer to commence, with the blue light stating lit.
I am confused in PyTivo though. Where exactly are the buttons to select PC .TiVo recordings for transfer to Tivo? I'm using the Dan Haddix 2017 pyTivo Desktop version 1.6.16.
Is that the correct version?
I don't see the button to transfer back to the tivo in TiVo Desktop either.
Thanks i really appreciate the assistance.

In pyTivo, i don't have a "Transfer Recordings" page, as indicated in the TivoToGo tab of the Settings page.
Thanks

TiVo earlier eliminated the ability for the pushing of shows, leaving only their ability to be pulled. To transfer shows from your PC to your TiVo box, once pyTivo has been started, go to your target TiVo box, navigate to your pyTivo videos shares folder there on the My Shows page, and select the show there, to pull it to the box.

Well, that's extremely disappointing news if true. With over 500 shows recorded that I don't want to lose, there's no way I'll be able to individually pull from the TiVo. Will need to selectively pull.
At least I was able to recover them from the failing hdd. TiVo support was useless. Weaknees also said I'd lose the recordings.
Maybe I can use Plex or hdd connected to Roku, to allow viewing.
Thanks for all the help. With the purple drive now, hopefully it'll be a long time before I do this again.

I know what you're saying. Having said that and gone through something like this with the contents of a full 500GB hard drive, you do, though, get into something of a quick rhythm with the pulls, queueing up 15-20 at a time (best to avoid more and a possible "overload" of the system, and a glitch--and I still did a QC check after each batch was transferred) and letting the TiVo box and PC do the hard lifting.

At least the pull capability was left alone.

Thanks, 10 queued up right now. Using Ethernet for pc and tivo.
One glitch so far. The transferred shows don't fall back into groups. I've toggled group View on and off in npl but no difference.
500 shows in npl without groups could be quite annoying.

I thought that elimination of push was a TE4/Hydra "feature", which wouldn't apply to a Series 3.
