Help!

I have a Series 2 Tivo that I want to use thru a Video Camera ONLY and Tivo says that I still have to pay for services even though I don't use any services. The Tivo tells me that I can't go any further with out service activation TIVO won't help I had a series 2 that worked fine before only 6 months ago but owner left program and took unit. HOW can get past programing on TIVO? Thanks Cathi

How come I had a series 2 before and it worked? is it a software Issue and would a series 1 be OK?
