I have finally got my tivo to receive programming information wirelessly through the Internet via my home network. The DVR prepares, connects, downloads, disconnects, and processes with no visible problem. However, when I execute my Desktop TIVO or have it executing when I force the DVR connection, I get nothing.
I have read these threads for hours, opened ports, rebooted, and restarted everything in all sorts of order and nothing.
I am beginning to believe that downloading programs from the DVR to a PC is a marketing hoax.
I see others are having problems uploading.
Please give me a procedure or solution or the address to send hate mail to Tivo senior management and software engineers. Either or all of the above would be appreciated.

By the way, I have a Microsoft wireless router and Tivo wireless adapter on my Tivo DVR.

just to rule out network problems...

go into your Tivo's Messages & Settings menu->Phone and Network Settings. Take note of your Tivo's IP address and subnet mask. Now get on your PC, goto start->run. Type cmd and hit enter.

at the prompt type ipconfig /all
Look at IP address and subnet mask.
For the IP address, the first 3 groups of numbers should be the same as the tivo, e.g. 192.168.1.xxx
The subnet mask should be the same for both systems, usually 255.255.255.0

If that's all in order, back at the prompt type ping followed by the IP of the Tivo. It should return something like "Reply from 192.168.1.xxx: bytes=32 time=5ms TTL=64" 4 times. If you get "Request timed out" over and over then clearly something is wrong either with the physical connection between your devices or a configuration problem.

To rule out configuration problem, make sure DHCP server is enabled on your router. Open a web browser and point it to http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 as may be the case. Type your login credentials for the router. If you haven't set them it's usually just admin for either/both name and password. Verify that DHCP server is on and nothing funky is going on with your settings. Then, reconfigure your TiVo's network settings to retrieve automatically (DHCP), and do the same for your PC. On the TiVo its in the Phone & Network settings menu. On the PC hit Start, right click My Network Places, click Properties, right click your LAN or wireless connection, hit Properties, select internet protocol (TCP/IP), properties, and check Obtain automatically for both IP address and DNS servers. Click OK or close until you're back to the desktop. You should now be on the same subnet and IP range as your TiVo and able to communicate with it properly. If not then your router is a piece of ***** and you should get a new one :D

Okay, I verified that all of the IP addresses were good using my Network Magic software.
Tivo was there sitting pretty. So...I decided to ping it like someone suggested and all of a sudden my TivoDesktop saw it and syncronized...oh happy day. I was able to download shows off of the DVR to my PC as advertised, though at a crawl due to the wireless connection. So my advice is to ping the DVR to get it recognized on your network. I haven't turned anything off since but that day is coming and we will see how it goes.
Thanks for the help.
