I am not able to move programs between my new to me Roamio and my computer. I currently also have an older Roamio that I purchased new in 2014 and a 3TB Bolt that I purchased new in 2016. Both of these units work fine with my computer. I use Tivo Desktop Plus to copy programs from the DVRs to the computer and pyTivo Desktop to copy programs back to the DVRs.

Tivo Desktop Plus sees the new Roamio but when I try to "Pick Recordings to Transfer" I get the following message:

"There was an error while attempting to retrieve data from the selected DVR."
"The network connection was aborted by the local system"

Then when I go to "Devices" on the new Roamio I don't see the folders supported by the ptTivo Desktop. I do see the new Roamio from my two original DVRs and I am able to move programs between the Tivo units.

Please advise what I can do to resolve this problem. I did try setting up a second Windows 10 computer with the Tivo Desktop Plus and I got the same error message.

You really do not need both Tivo Desktop and PyTivo, as both does the same things, but PyTivo does more.

If your Roamio is running TE4/v21/Hydra (See System Information), then computers will not show up. You also have to use online.tivo.com to start transfers to it.

The software version is 21.9.2.v4-840-6-840 so the computer will not show up.

I found that pyTivo will allow me to transfer a program to the computer. But I don't see any way to transfer a program from the computer to the Tivo.

That's the downside with Hydra/TE4/software version 21.x: it only allows TiVo box -> PC downloads, not PC -> TiVo box uploads. A big :thumbsdown:.* To be able to go both ways, you would need to sidegrade your TE4 box back to TE3 (note that your TiVo box shows will be lost in the process--and so transfer any shows you with to save to your PC first, and then back to your TiVo box after, should you wish).**

* And even there, the new Edge box isn't currently allowing Edge box -> PC transfers, something which may be looked into.

** Note: sidegrading to TE3 is not possible on the specifically-denominated Bolt OTA box, and the Edge platform.

Yep, user do-able (in fact, the user has to do it--TiVo won't do it for you, although it makes sidegrading available). In addition to losing the VOX capability, you also lose AutoSkip (but still have SkipMode), CEC capability, as well as the look-and-feel of TE4 over TE3. But you also gain, beyond the PC -> TiVo box transfer capability, the TiVo Live Guide, inter-box transfer capability from the boxes themselves (no need to go to TiVo Online), and Suggestions that works.

Well, transfer the shows you want to save to your PC first (and then back to the TiVo box after, should you wish). As mentioned above, good, easy-to-use freeware for this: pyTivo Desktop.

You're right, unfortunately. But available for non-copyright-restricted shows, e.g. in most areas, for all OTA recordings.
