Does anybody have any idea why my Tivo Series II would say "powering up" when turned on, even though there was no power failure or anything to cause this? Then it said "recovering from a serious problem" and that it would take three hours to fix. This is the first time anything like this has happened. I have three tivo's, two that I am using now are both Series II, Sony units. One of them had a new hard drive installed last year and works perfectly. I just wanted to see if anybody could give me some info. on what may have happened here.
Thanks. Debbie

The GSOD is generally caused by data corruption which TiVo needs to address by running its version of "check or scan disk". (Don't do anything to TiVo while it is in this mode.) This activity can take from 10 minutes to three hours while it checks on configuration issues, isolates bad hard drive sectors, etc.

After it is finished it will reboot on its own. If it continues to have problems I fear that there is likely hard drive failure in its future. :(
