Hello Tivo community, I've been on this site for the past couple of months trying to figure out how I can use a Tivo Series 2 to use during my volleyball practices.

This past week I bought a brand new Tivo Series 2, model TCD24004A.

My goal is to connect the camcorder's Yellow-Red-White cables to the Tivo input, and then the tivo output would go into the TV. I would film our practices, giving our coaches and athletes the ability to rewind up to 30 minutes to re-watch parts of practice. I have coached collegiate volleyball and this was the exact setup we used. So I know it's possible.

I do not have a Tivo subscription. I do not need the ability to "record" the practices. I only want the rewind/pause functions.

My problem now is that I can't get through the guided setup of the Tivo. My Tivo model has a phone line jack in the back along with two USB inputs. I don't have a landline, so I haven't tried the phone jack option. But I have tried using an ethernet-to-USB adapter, and that hasn't worked.

I'm looking for tips to get through the guided setup. Thank you all in advance!

You won't be able to complete GS without a network connection, as dial-in is no longer supported. Find an Ethernet adapter from this list: Tivo Customer Support Community

or find a TiVo Wireless G adapter and use that on the wireless.

To complete Guided Setup, use zip code 00000 and select Tiny TiVo to avoid loading in guide data since you won't be watching real TV on it anyway.

Thank you. So If I'm using this brand new adapter (just bought it two days ago) and getting a "no dial tone" error in the guided setup, does that mean there is something wrong with this adapter? Or maybe my router? How can I know for sure?

You can't record on a Tivo without a subscription. Tivo will not sell a subscription for a series 2 anymore. At a minimum you need a Series 2 with all in service.

Look for one of the following models, because they are designed to accept input from a video camera.

Toshiba RS-TX20
Toshiba RS-TX60
Humax DRT400
Humax DRT800
