Try rebooting.
Tivo Series 1 Tuner problems
I have a Tivo Series 1 with lifetime service. It has been modified with a larger hard drive and wireless access. These mods were done 3 or 4 years ago. I am using a new glo remote with Bright House Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2100. The Tivo changes channels perfectly with the remote. No issues. BUT when it needs to change channels itself to record a show it frequently has problems. I have spent time watching it when the channel is supposed to change and it fails about 60% of the time for one of two reasons; either it doesn't even try, or it tries but gets ????? for the channel to change to so it does not change. I do not understand why this is happening and would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

Thanks shwru980r for replying. I have been having this problem for approx 2 weeks and have rebooted the tivo many times.
So, you're saying when you force a channel change, the Tivo changes channels no problem but when Tivo changes channels to record you're having problems?

That is correct Steve. It started happening about two weeks ago. I haven't made any changes in setup. The remote changes channels itself but the tivo can't seem to do it. Have not had any problems before this. Have had this box a long time and it has always been very reliable. Any help you can provide would be appreciated.

Are we talking about the TiVo changing channels on it's own analog tuner, or changing the channel to which an external cable box is tuned?I have a Tivo Series 1 with lifetime service. Just a weird thought... I'm assuming you went through guided setup again when you added the cable box, but did you redo your season passes?
Even though the Tivo should know that you're now using a cable box, it seems it is still trying to change the internal tuner for a pre-set recording.
It might be worth the experiment to redo some season passes and see what happens. It's the only thing I can come up with for such an odd problem.
Edit: Did this become a problem when you added the cable box, or was it working reliably with the cable box before and it recently started acting up?
