An OTA "converter" box will not work on digital cable. Different modulation scheme. You should be able to get a free DTA from your cable company. That may get you what you want. Is your TiVo single tuner?

Is your TiVo single tuner? So I have a Lifetime Series 2 TIVO, and Im paying $40 a month for extended basic cable. I know if I decide to downgrade to the $16 basic cable I will lose channels 42-76 but most of those channels that I actually watch can be found in clear digital signal on channels like 143.1, 183.3 131.2 that my tv can get, can I just get a $50 OTA box have it scan the cable signal and detect those channels and run that threw the tivo? I had some ota box a few years ago and the option to scan cable signal was grayed out and I can only do an antenna scan.
Are there any OTA boxes that are tivo S2 compatible that can do a cable scan and have tivo get the channels, the same channels my tv gets without any tuners?
Its a single tuner. Did a google search on DTA and that looks like exactly what I need, I hope its free, thanks. An OTA "converter" box will not work on digital cable. Different modulation scheme. I'm pretty sure that FCC regulations require them to provide two free DTA's. Which cable company is this? $8.99 a month sounds more like a charge for a full blown cable box, which a DTA is most definitely not.Its a single tuner. Did a google search on DTA and that looks like exactly what I need, I hope its free, thanks.
Edit: Well it's not free, they want 8.99 a month... is there DTA boxes that I can get a store/online that will work with tivo IR codes?
Generally, it is the channels you had on basic analog and possibly the local side channels. I have the two free ones but have only installed one and don't personally use it. They may all be clear QAM channels for all I know.Do the DTA's get all the channels you pay for or just clear QAM you get with digital tuner TV?
Aren't Digital Tuning Adapter's what you have to use if you have something that can tune digital cable channels, but your cable company has made some or all of them only available via Switched Digital Video, i.e., you need the adapter to contact the head end computer to request that the channel be made available, kind of like your browser requesting a specific web page?Generally, it is the channels you had on basic analog and possibly the local side channels. Precisely. While close in name, they have completely different functions.A digital transport adapter is digital to analog converter tuning adapter is for switched.
For those of us who couldn't see his invisible punctuation, is a digital transport adapter a coupon box?Precisely. While close in name, they have completely different functions.
No. A "coupon box" (I forget the official name for it), is for OTA only, a DTA does the same thing (convert digital TV signals to a analog format so an older TV can display them), but for a cable TV system. For those of us who couldn't see his invisible punctuation, is a digital transport adapter a coupon box?
