Most likely, its the fan. You may need to open up and do a little housekeeping.

Dear Forum,
When I plug my TIVO in the hard drive makes alot of noise, the unit is 2 years old. The noise completely stops after everything is booted back up. Is this normal noise? Also, there is a very small amount of noise from the fan, is that normal? I can hear the fan making a small amount of noise.
