Also, it does not have lifetime. I want to use it as a "digital VCR". Is that possible?

If you hook cable box or compatible OTA converter to it, and blaster if you want it to change channel itself. edit thought you said has lifetime won't work. There are plenty of S2's on ebay cheap with lifetime, someone here probably has one to sell too.

I know I can hook up a cable box to it, I'm asking if anyone has an image for my TiVo with Rovi since mine won't get past setup because of that.

Since it doesn't have lifetime will not get past setup no matter what.

He decided to go through guided setup on this non-lifetime TCD240080 he bought (a TCD24008A image works on that unit btw) - but now it's stuck in guided setup. He actually bought the unit just to grab recordings off of it. The TiVo did not download the Rovi update when he left it overnight, is the post above about it getting permanently stuck in guided setup true?

Also, when downloading the Rovi update on a lifetime TCD540080 after using your restore image, his TiVo got into a bootloop. He wants to upgrade the 40GB drive in it with an 80GB.

He has a working 40GB hard drive, but cannot backup and restore onto a new drive. WinMFS and DvrBARS complains something is corrupted with that hard drive, so copying over the hard drive data doesn't work. Restoring the broken image with DvrBARS got him stuck on a grey screen after the Welcome screen on bootup.

Is there another way to get the Rovi update without letting it sit through Guided Setup? Kickstart 56 does not work and says there's a bad connection (same issue happened with one of my personal TiVos).

Its a waste of time and work to try and get an unsubscribed series 2-4 working. It will not achieve anything as it will not work to record or transfer.

@ThAbtO any idea about this part? He's unable to upgrade his other Series 2 unit that does have lifetime.

I am not an expert, only pass on images.

Without any full info on the exact equipment used, there is no clue as what might be wrong. They may just be aged.

How did he know what was on it before buying it? And why did he buy it as there is really almost no value in a series 2 other than parts (and even then the value has to be minimal)?

He didn't know what was on it beforehand.

He has a bunch of TiVos now. He uses Series 2, he will soon have 3 Series 2s with lifetime after he learned how to check the TSN with TiVo Support.

We've had S3 OLED's since 2007 although we didn't get our HD TV until 2010. I can't imagine living with SD.

Me neither, but he likes to use CRTs and such. But he just got a cheap Roamio and activated it, plus he found a Series 3 OLED with lifetime that's apparently broken that he wants to get.
