I'd guess trying a new codec, but that's about all I know about the subject.
Tivo recordings freezing on pc.
Well, this just stinks. One of the main reasons I wanted a tivo was to get the programs on my pc so I could edit/burn them.
Transferred a couple of program through tivitogo and one of them just freezes about 30 seconds in. The other one a couple of minutes in. This is playing in WMP 10 on an XP pr machine. They play fine on the tivo.
Also I can play other video files through WMP and they play fine.
Any ideas? I've rebooted, went to windows update just to make sure wmp 10 was current. What else can I try?

I would have thought if it didn't have the correct codec it wouldn't play at all.
Let us know if you get this fixed. I've got the exact same problem and have been trying to get it to work for two months.

I had power dvd already installed on my system and I just tried the Sonic program before I read your post. Still nothing.

I have Nero Showtime and PowerDVD. My PC is a Sempron 2400+, 512 MB RAM, ATI 9200SE graphics, DX9 installed. I also have the K-Lite pack, and .tivo files play back well with WMP-Classic.
Tried the K-Lite pack too, didn't help.
Just as Mover reported, I burned a dvd with the file and all is fine. I really hope ther is a remedy to this because I have several upcoming things I want to transfer, edit, and save on my pc.
Mover (or anyone else), Do you know if the VideoReDo would even work at all? IOW could I still open a tivo file in it and take out commericial/edit it and then burn to dvd? Or would the video not even show up through videoredo?

Same thing happens in videoredo. Hangs it up. If you try to use their quickfix, it generates a mpg up to the point where it hangs. The videoredo help guy says that if it won't run in WMP it won't run in videoredo.
You can try it for free for a couple weeks. If I ever get this problem solved, I'm going to buy videoredo, 'cause it's a really good video editing program!

Thanks for the info Mover. Glad I didn't go ahead and buy it. I might try and copy the tivo file to my laptop to see if I get the same result.

How are you transferring the file to the PC? Are you doing a file copy like from one PC drive to another? Or, are you playing the program and capturing to your PC via an analog device or capture card?
I want to do the same thing you are trying to do so I will be watching with interest as you progress toward your goal.

My network is configured as such- Main pc is wired into a router. That router is connected to a wireless router. Tivo has the wirelss G adapter connected to it.
So, in essence, TivotoGo connects to the tivo through my wired router and on to my wireless router (all cat5e/cat6) then wirelessly to the G adapter.
BTW I also took the file and copied it over to my laptop and it still will not work.
Very frustrating.

1. The file compression that TiVo uses is different from anything on your computer. I think it needs to be converted to MPEG or AVI in the process of importing to your PC, or thereafter.
2. There is a thread [sticky] on the home page of this forum that discusses the file transfers and streaming the video from machine to machine via wireless.

Ah WMP !! I have had problems playing certain files in WMP myself that will play in other viewers. I would guess that it is a Microsoft anomoly like so many others. I have not always been successful, but I think what you need is the correct codec for wmp. But, I don't know which one to suggest. If you get that, you should be good to go.

Here's a bit of an update.
I copied two tivo files to a dvd and gave it to my brother who also has a tivo. I set his network up a while back and he's been transferring tivo files to his pc and playing them without any problems.
He copied the files I gave him to his hard drive and they both freeze when he plays them. So I don't see how it could be a codec issue.
It may be that the files themself are corrupt.
But......this brings me back to think if they are corrupt then why can I burn a tivo file to a dvd using Sonic MyDVD and it will play fine in my set top dvd player. if the file is corrupt, it's corrupt???? Right?
Just wanted to bump this to see if anyone may have encounterd this problem or have some ideas.
