My Tivo Series 2 (TCD140060) was working fine when I unplugged it to change its networking from wireless b (Belkin adapter) to a wired adapter. When I plugged the tivo back in, instead of showing any of the normal Powering up screens or Almost there..., it shows no video. Weirdly, the audio from my cable box is being passed through immediately, so I can hear the live audio from the cable box (no Tivo sounds and I can't change channels using the remote).

When I plug in the box, the two LEDs on the front panel turn orange immediately, and stay orange. They do not change at all. I have tried unplugging the box several times, for a few seconds, then 20 minutes, still nothing.

FYI, I got the Tivo latest update fine, and that did not seem to be a problem...

I read here http://www.tivoblog.com/archives/2006/10/12/whats-wrong-with-my-moms-tivo/
that this could be a side effect of a bad power supply? Usually when a drive crashes, I see the Powering up screen... but this time there is nothing. No startup screen, no video, nothing....

Any suggestions?

That is strange and does sound like a HDD or power supply issue. But since you just changed the broadband connection that might have something to do with it. Have you tried rebooting it without any broadband connection...or tried putting it back to the way it was? Can you hear the hard drive spin up when you reboot?

I left the unit unplugged all night, and when I plugged it back in, still two orange lights. I tried rebooting it with no network adapted plugged in, with the old Belkin wireless adapter, and with the new ethernet adapter (which I have used with the Tivo before). Nothing worked. It still comes up with no splash screen, and immediately passes audio through from the cable box.

The drives were quiet, so I can't really tell if they are spinning up or not. I haven't yet pulled the drives and put my back up in. I will try that next, if no one has any other suggestions...

Thanks..

I took the case off tonight and plugged it in, and the drives do not spin up... I assume this is apower supply problem, but the cost of a replacement is $60, and a new tivo is only $99 these days...

So I might just see if I can transfer the subscription to a new box...

Thanks!

I've seen a lot of dead 130/140 units with dead power supplies. Those models seem to have a problem with the PS overheating. Upgrading to a newer model is probably a good idea anyway, if only to get USB 2.0 ports instead of the 1.1 ports on the 130/140.

Too bad it didn't work out. Agree with you and Arcady...might be best just to get a replcement that you can depend on. Transferring shouldn't be a problem.
