Is the older Tivo Mini compatible with the Tivo Bolt? I have 2 Tivo Bolts on lifetime service and would like to know if the Mini can connect to either via wired ethernet. And I don't have to buy any service for the Mini itself, correct?

Do I need any additional hardware? Or just an available ethernet port on my existing switch?

Please let me know. Thanks.

Should work.

There's been recent posts about the 1st gen models kinda dropping like flies, plus issues with YouTube, so I'd probably avoid those.

Also, they do require a subscription, it's just included with them, technically...

TiVo officially requires a wired network connection (Ethernet or MoCA, including mixing) for Minis and their host DVR, with the recent exception of the new TiVo Wi-Fi adapter for Mini VOX/LUX units (running TE4/Hydra) - though plenty of people are using DIY wireless setups. YMMV.

Aside from a working network connection, the boxes just need to be on the same TiVo account.

As mentioned above, some older A93/A93 units hitting 5 years of age have gone bad, so that's something to keep an eye on if buying used.

Yes, but probably only if you buy a Mini that was a provider-leased unit (which will have no possibility of service), rather than retail. Retail Mini’s should report Lifetime service even if not originally purchased with it.
