TIVO might have failed

I have a 4 year old series 2 TIVO. Been working like a champ for 4 years. Today when I tried to access it there was nothing on my screen. Just blank. Removed the power cable and put it back in and just got the "Welcome. Powering up..." message. After several minutes nothing more happens. Any ideas? Dead hard drive??

Sounds like a new hard drive is in order!
Hmm, might just upgrade to a new HD TIVO.
Quick question. If the old drive is basically dead, is it still possible to upgrade/swap the drive out for a new one? I always thought it just worked if you could backup the OS, etc. to the new drive.

Upgrade tools like InstantCake include the image files required to initialize a new hard drive.
strangely mine's having same exact problem since yesterday. Wonder if it is worth investing >200 in a new hard drive if it may not solve the problem.

In most of these cases would you say the drive is not worth saving by a reimage? I was thinking of trying that first with InstantCake before maybe getting a new drive.

Or maybe I will just order that new HD Lite TIVO version that just came out.
Don't reuse your current hard drive. New hard drives are pretty cheap and it's not worth the risk of re-imaging a flakey old hard drive.
