After checking the Tivo site I noticed the lifetime subscription regular price is $499.99 and down to $399.99 with a upgrade. Freaking $499.99.....is Tivo out of their mind?

They also dropped the price of the Premiere by about the same amount as the Lifetime increase. What I paid for a PremiereXL w/MSD lifetime works out to be the same as the "new" upgrade offer that I have now.

My guess is they are hoping to attract more customers with a lower up-front cost and hoping for a recurring monthly bill.

Actually they dropped the Premeire by $200 while Lifetime went up $100 so it is $100 cheaper now. Upgrade offers are the only ones that went slightly up.

Technically the new upgrade offer is just MSD and states this. I do hope it drops in the future, but right now it is even cheaper if you buy the Premiere from Amazon and then get MSD Lifetime from TiVo.
And I used to think when the lifetime was $300, that was to expensive.

To think it is even cheaper now.

$299 + $399 = $698
$99 + $499 = $598.

or

$299 + $299 = $598
$99 + $399 = $498

Where is lifetime now $299?

I think the price point is a good one for the market if you want the equipment and the lifetime.

Moxi - $599 with no monthly fees

TIVO - $598 with no montly fees

TIVO's new price puts it in a good place with their main competition since they are moving towards more cable support. Moxi has a 3 tuner and now TIVO needs to upgrade to more tuners at some point to stay competitive.

Those are the old rates when the hardware was $299. Lifetime went up $100 and hardware dropped $200 or an overall savings of $100.

I said it used to be $299, not that it is now.

I had been thinking about adding lifetime to my old Series 3, but not at a price of $500!

If you are serious about adding it, I would give Tivo a call. They may give a discount to you. It never hurts to try...

The best deal they offered me was a lifetime for $400. I laughed and hung up.

I hate paying monthly subscription fees, but I hate being gouged even more.
So for units purchased from Amazon, will Tivo now allow lifetime ($399/$499, MSD/new customers) or is lifetime still only available for units purchased directly from Tivo?

Lifetime is available on any box now.
