I have seen a model by Sony DHG-HDD500 HDTV TUNER HD DVR DHGHDD500. this is a HDTV tuner box and DVR in one so it is rather pricey I would really like a TIVO to go along with my TIVO now Any Help

The thing you should search for in these forums is "Series 3" or "Series3"... TiVo has announced a standalone HDTV product for over-the-air and cable TV systems, with 2 tuner recording capability. Price and availability have not been disclosed, but the system is scheduled to be released "this year".

Thanks, it looks like the Series 3 is just what I am looking for. I didn't even realize I had a series 2. Still learning everyday how much this TIVO has to offer. Had to be one of the better investments I made. Now looking forward to the next generation!!!

I have the sony and LOVE IT!! Remember that this box works ONLY with cable and OTA just like the upcoming Tivo3. If you want a box to work with DTV, you are limited to HR10-250 or coming later this year the HR-20 with mpeg4.

If you can switch to cable - there are several Hd DVRs coming which should increase features and decrease prices without locking you into a 2 year contract like DTV does.

Remember Tivo is just a brand. I have used or are currently using replay tv, ultimate tv, directtivo, HDTivo, comcast motorola 6412 seriesIII and the sony DHG HDD500. So far I am LEAST PLEASED with the tivo interface. It is the SLOWEST OF ALL BY FAR (even with the 6.2 update) and the only interface that makes you leave the show you are watching in order to surf different guides or change settings.

Since I now have cable I am looking forward to several HD Dvrs that are soon to be released including an HD DVR by Panasonic that will have 3 tuners. TIVO, Sony and LG should also have their dual tuner HD Dvrs out this year as well. You will have the best choice of HD DVRs in the future with cable. Hopefully that is an option for you.

I don't have cable or DTV I have a Big dish and OTA. MY big dish is a Motorola DSR 922 4DTV reciever(which I am looking into their HDTV add on) Now I quess my new question is can I hook up any of the other dvr's that you mention to my network and send recordings back and forth like I understand you can do with the TIVO unit?

The Series 3 won't work with your BUD either. It's not "standalone" in the sense I think you mean - it won't record arbitrary HD material over component or HDMI. It has tuners for OTA (built-in) and cable (via a cable card supplied by your cable company).

I went through three defective Sony DHG units in a row, and I HATED the TVGOS! TiVo puts it to shame. And, I don't know where you've gotten your information about Sony and LG having dual tuner units out this year...to my knowledge, Sony coming out with ANY update to its discontinued DHG units is PURE speculation. And I've seen nothing about LG coming out with any dual tuner unit.
