I was recently given an HD XL model 658000 without a hard drive. Would anyone be able to help me with how to format a 1 TB hard drive on Windows 10 for TiVo and an image I can load after formatting? Thanks.

You also must make sure There is a lifetime subscription already in place, otherwise it would be pointless as Tivo does not activate these units anymore.

There may be a problem with the power supply capacitors and they may need to be replaced.
What drive to use? a WD10EFRX or WD20EFRX, which is WD Red Plus. Others would not work for reasons like power consumption (too high), SMR.

Thanks for sending the image and winmfs file. I'm going to give it a shot this weekend so I do appreciate all the info you provided. The friend thinks it does have a lifetime subscription so I'll guess I'll know soon! :) This same friend also sold me a Series 3 HD for $25 with a lifetime subscription and after about a year of use it starting rebooting. I'm backing up the hard drive using dvrBARS to see if I can restore to another drive to make sure it isn't a faulty drive. I have a feeling it is the power supply but wanted to try this first. Would you happen to know where I could get an image for this TiVo which is model TCD648250B just in case what I'm attempting doesn't work? Thanks again.
