I had a season pass set for The War and it recorded the first 5 episodes just fine. the last 2 didn't get recorded even though I double checked the To Do list to make sure it was scheduled. Did I miss something in programming the unit? Could I have programmed something that took precedence and the TiVo just skipped the Season Pass recording? They're rebroadcasting late this week and I don't want to miss them again.
Sorry, I'm pretty much a TiVo newbie - came over from ReplayTV.

Check the recording history at the top of the To Do list page. It should tell you why a program wasn't recorded. Chances are you have too many programs set to keep until you delete. If you have any season passes set with this recording option then any future recordings in the To Do list with this option are considered already recorded. The Tivo reserves space for such recordings and won't record anything with a lower priority seaon pass if all available space is already spoken for. Change your recording options to delete them to make room for new recordings, as required (I forget the exact wording of the option, but you get my drift).

I do have the previous 5 episodes set to save until I delete and a couple other programs already recorded, but there are a lot of TiVo suggestion recordings that could be deleted, so I don't THINK it's a lack of HDD space. (Unfortunately, TiVo doesn't list remaining space - they could take a hint from RTV and make that info available). I'll check the recording history when I get home tonight and maybe curl up with the owner manual, as I should. Let's see - where did I put that?

Check your "Keep at most" setting. The default is 5 shows which is the number you said has been recorded.
Agreed. I can almost guarantee that you set up the season pass with the "Keep until I delete" and "Keep 5 episodes at most" options set.

That may not necessarily be the case. Prior to the last two episodes being broadcast, I checked my "To Do" list and noticed that they didn't have any episode-specific information for them. I don't think Tivo updated the program information for those episodes. Unless you had set your Tivo to record all episodes, it wouldn't have picked them up.

The lack of episode data makes it more likely that the Tivo would record the episodes, not less likely.

Without episode data, the Tivo would record the epidodes assuming they were new. This would occur even if the episodes happened to be repeats of episodes already recorded. If the "Keep Until I Delete" and "Keep 5 episodes" options were set, this would prevent the Tivo from recording the newer episodes, even if they lacked episode data.

I'm not home now or I would have confirmed my error but I remember when I checked my "to Do" list, the episode name was included in the listing. surrounded by other listings (different times and channels) with the episode I wanted showing (I think it was) a check mark. I'm nearly certain it was simple pilot error now that it's been spelled out to me. I doubt that I even looked at the options screen when I scheduled the recordings. While the default is 5 shows and to save until space needed, I manually changed the status to keep until I delete after each show recorded. Hopefully I'll get home early enough to increase the number to keep and catch episodes 6 and 7 when they're rebroadcast. Thanks for the heads up!

Home now and checked. Indeed it was limited to 5 shows, but, another factor that is apparently "just the way the darn thing works" troubles me. I went back and looked at the recording history and, since I selected first run only, it indicated that the reason the rescheduled show wasn't recorded was because a same named show had already played EVEN THOUGH NOT SUCCESSFULLY RECORDED. No mention was made that it excedded the 5 show limit. Now I can understand that way of thinking, but apparently TiVo just assumes you don't want a show that's been shown earlier even if it was not recorded AND you have rescheduled it to be recorded.
So it appears the only way to get these two shows now is to have it record ALL shows and then in the To Do list, manually delete the many repetitions of those first five shows already recorded - a major PITA. Or, am I wrong - will TiVo check with what's recorded and not toss the baby with the bath water if i don't go through the schedule all and delete drill? I will play with it and see how its mind works, but since I really want these two shows recorded, I'll do it the long way now.
As a person who deals on a daily basis with useability, I find more than a few of the "features" of Tivo a bit lacking in same. :-( Don't get me wrong though - it's still way better than the Comcast competition

Your wrong. ;) Just go to your season pass for "The War." Select "View Upcoming Episodes" and manually select the two episodes you missed.

You can also select one of "The War" episodes from the Now Playing list. Select "More Options" then pick "View Upcoming Episodes" and manually select the ones you missed.

You can also delete the season pass since there are only 7 episodes.

I've always hated the default of KAM 5 on TiVo. It's arbitrary. It should be an option to set your default record settings and not be stuck with what TiVo thinks it should be. Who's the wizzard that declared five to be optimal?

Luckily, they are showing replays of it, so all you need to do is change it to 10 episodes and it should pick up the episodes automatically. The ToDo list will not update automatically, so give it some time after you change the setting. Btw, KAM is a dangerous setting if you use it wrong.

I really appreciate all the help here.
As I added to my remarks on an earlier post, the information I found on the missed recordings didn't mention that I already had the maximum number of shows recorded, but instead reported that it didn't record because the show aired at an earlier date [which it had and (I assume) was skipped because of the 5 show limit]. I suspect, given that logic, that even after raising the ante to 10 shows, it would again skip the last 2 shows because they'd been presented earlier and were, thus, not first runs. I'd love to experiment but don't want to risk missing those last 2 shows, so I'll play with another series when I have time. I wish I had 2 TiVos so I could prove one way or the other. And I could probably even think of another reason or two for another TiVo...

And thanks for that tip too!
