I've seen results that people haven't had to BUY the hd from tivo directly.

I've been able to find it elsewhere as cheap as 238.

If that won't work, can I buy it from both places, activate one and send the tivo 299 one back (how will they know the product number)

Heh. Only a thought.

Edit: New Info, another option (though not cheaper)

Get an email from TiVo about a lifetime transfer? Yes! That will work with the WeaKnees units below. See the blog for more info.

May I ask where you found it as low as 238?

Am I understanding right that the lifetime transfer is ONLY good for the TivoHD and not the Series3?
I found it here lisa for 234.88 http://www.electronics-expo.com/index.php?page=item&ci_src=5784816&id=TVOTCD652160 , + Shipping (Which according to pricegrabber was 12$)

Amazon for 253.88 (shipping included)

The current promotion is only for the TivoHD, and supposadly only for tivo's bought from tivo directly (or, it appears weekness).

I'm having a second questions now, is it possible to upgrade the TivoHD with a 2ND harddrive (add not replace)? Thats my perferred method, but I know this was harder to do with the series 2, and possibly the series 3/hd. My series one has been chugging with 2 harddrives for a looong time though.
