I'm thinking about taking the plunge and buying the TivoHD -- I'm planning on also utilizing the lifetime transfer option as my Series 1 w/ lifetime was bought before the cutoff date, meaning no returns allowed...

My worry right now is that I've heard ramblings on the forums that the Tivo guide is slow (even after the 9.1 update). How is the rest of the user interface? I don't use the guide that much, but it would be very annoying to me if the Now Playing list was slow to go through also... How are the rest of the menus?

I'm tempted to wait to see if something better comes out, but I really want to start utilizing the HD on my HDtv when watching TV shows... Thanks!

I'm personally not thrilled with the UI speed of the THD. I'm used to using the HR10-250, which runs circles around the THD IMO. I have not gotten 9.2 either but I cannot see how it would improve anything, as the UI response time has been relatively the same since I had 8.2.

The UI on my THD w/9.1 is still slow. It's usable, and the speed of the grid guide has improved a bit since 8.1.7, but overall everything is definitely slower and jerkier than either of my S2's (S2 240, S2DT 649).

So far I am quite happy with the THD. I just dumped the HR10-250 that was getting slower and slower. I am seeing a good guide speed...that is much better than my HR10 was.

A buddy of mine who has owned Series 1 and Series 2 hardware for years didn't believe me when I told him how slow the Tivo HD is.

After playing with the THD box at my place a few weeks back his comments;

"wow, you weren't exaggerating, that's dirt slow".

The series1 UI is lightning quick. The S3/HD are several major orders of magnitude slower. UI speed is my main complaint with my S3.

Of course they also support, you know, HD. And now playing folders, and (soon) MRV/TTG/TTCB, and they download podcasts, amazon unbox, etc. But mostly HD.

That's disheartening.

My two TiVos are Phillips Series and if the UI on these Series One models are "lightening quick" compared to the new HD models, I'm afraid to see how slow it really is on them.

I picked up a TiVoHD about 2 weeks ago and it is dirt slow with the expanding grid TV listing.

I heard that doing a few manual connects to get the latest software version sometimes help?

I have a S1,S2, and just got a new tivo hd. Id say my tivo HD(8.2) and S2 are a tiny bit slower. But its really not bad. Maybe its just because I got my tivo hd and have only about 5 shows on it, but it moves pretty fast. After reading all these complaints, I was expecting it to be really slow. Now I only do have 8.2 and I hear 9.1 is slower, but I hope its not true. I dont know why I didnt get 9.1 or 9.2 this morning, my tivo was going to get it at 2am but did not for some reason

I never had an S1. Had an S2 and now the S3. It's a bit slower, but not excruciatingly so. It's perfectly acceptable to me.

I used to have an S1 with a 512mb cachecard. I now own an S3. The S1 with the card was faster than my S3, but the S3 is faster that the S1 without the cachecard.
I vehemently disagree with this statement. I didn't have a cachecard, and my S1 UI was much, MUCH faster than my S3. Scrolling through the NPL for example was instantaneous, no refresh.

I just got a THD and immediately noticed that it was quite a bit slower than my S1 unit. I only have 8.1.7 (or something like that) so far, so I can't comment on how newer versions of the OS make it faster or slower. I was disappointed in the speed, but all of the extra capabilities it has compared to my S1 TiVo more than make up for it.

I was also surprised to see that the UI itself on an HD TV seemed less sharp the the S1 interface did on a SD TV. I also have a MythTV box running at 1080p, and that UI is razor sharp on all screens - much nicer looking than the THD UI.

Version 8.1 was right up against unusably slow on my S3. When hitting pagedown on the NPL, it...refreshed...the...shows...one...at...a....time. It was excruciating. 8.3 was usable, but still laggy. 9.1 is in between 8.1 and 8.3.
