Tivo HD + Comcast
I am going to upgrade to the new Tivo HD using the lifetime transfer deal. I'm not quite sure what order to do things in. I need to get the Tivo, contact Comcast about the cards, & contact Tivo to update to the new HD.
I would like to try to get the unit from CC or Costco. So, I'm not sure if customer service is going to get me transfer the lifetime service. Then, I'm not sure if there is going to be a problem with Comcast.
Should I buy the unit, activate the transfer, and then contact Comcast?
What if I have problems with Comcast and can't use the new Tivo...do I lose my lifetime service on my old machine?
What order would you use to make sure that everything works out?

There is no "answer"; as everyones situation is different..
I have an S1 w/LT, and a Tivo S3 w/LT. The S3 has comcast cable cards.
over the weekend i bought a Tivo HD from Circuit City, called Tivo when I got home, got the LT transfer from the S1 moved over. Opened the box, set it up. Called comcast and now my cable cards are installed.
If you're worried that TivoHD won't work w/Comcast; then schedule comcast Cable Card install; buy the TivoHD; set it up the night before comcast arrives. Once the CC's are working you have 2 days of service w/tivo at no charge. Then call up and get it xferred..

I didn't realize that you had two days of free service. That helps a lot.
I guess the only danger in having Comcast come before moving over he lifetime service is if Tivo refuses to move it to a non-tiivo.com box.

I think it is actually more like 7 days of free service. But you could also call and get into a contract, you always have 30 days to say no and get your money back.
I had an online chat with Comcast about getting my CableCard...this is part of it:

Check the series 3 forum.. there's lots of discussion about cable card prices there.
