I paid 278 for one last week and right after I ordered the price went to 285. You never can tell what price amazon will charge for things. But I do have amazon prime so I saved a bunch on shipping for delivery on a Saturday.

Also at Costco for 279.99 OTD, plus the costco "forever" warranty. I asked and they said that TiVo is not limited by the new policy for TVs and computers.

FYI ... If you purchase something from Amazon and the price drops within 30 days, they will happily refund you the difference. You just have to fire them off an e-mail and let them know. I have done this several times in the past. :)

Man this thread is like a chapter of my life for the last week. I went to amazon.com, saw the Tivo's for $278 and ordered 3 of them (have prime, + tax free) so I figured off of MSRP I saved about $60+$45tax+??shipping. so over $100 not bad.

Then I go to Costco and see they have a whole pallet of them at $280 and I too ask if the 90day return policy applies to Tivos as well, and they say no. So now I'm thinking $45tax is probably worth lifetime warranty on 3 tivo units...I go home to cancel my amazon order and then they were $268! So is the lifetime warranty worth $140+ now(return shipping and tax costs)??? LOL you can probably imagine my head was spinning.

So now, I have 3 Tivo HD's sitting in their amazon shipping boxes still...I could return them, figure $20shipping each. So the question is:

$60shipping+$45tax+potential$30amazon refund for sale=$105-$135. Thats what it would cost me to return the boxes and buy them at Costco...I'm thinking its worth it for the lifetime warranty...thoughts?

That's exactly what I did. I ordered it at $278 two weeks ago, and noticed it at $265 yesterday. Called them, they adjusted the price, and I received my refund to my credit card today.

BTW, noticed a banner on the forum for the S3 at 399 after rebate. Has the S3 been that low before?

Yes, there was a $200 rebate from Tivo around Father's Day (end of May time frame) and many online retailers selling S3 for $599 & free shipping + no taxes - that's when I got my 2nd unit. This rebate period is quite a bit longer and looks to be designed to kill off remaining S3 inventory. I suspect there are no more S3s being fabricated now that the THD is out and somewhat stable.
