Hopefully, someone can give me some insight. I bought a Tivo HD last week to replace my perfect Tivo 2 and have had all the problems talked about in the forums treads. Cable guy installed the SA cards on Friday........

No video, grey video. Loss of huge groups of channels and lockups. I've rebooted a hundred times and reset the SA cards as many. I'm ready to box it up and ship it back to Amazon. Then drive back to Cablevision and get thier clucky DVR I've used since last year with no issues.

Can someone assist/convince me not to ship it back to Amazon! Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for the quick reply. I should of mentioned that the video issue started from day one on SD as well. That's before the CC were installed.

Also, I did bump up the internal drive to 500GB before the cable guy installed the cards. Could that have anything to do with the video dropping?

I think before you can declare the THD defective you have to put the original hard drive back in and try the CC install again. Plus you want that original hard drive cable-carded so you can use it for future updates without needing the cable company’s support.

Thanks, I'll do that right now. I guess I'll need to call the cable company again if I put the original drive back in, right? Are the CC paired to the hardware or the software? Thanks again.

And how soon before you started taking out and resetting the CCs? They might take a little while to activate. I hope you didn't overreact and start doing that within the first hour of installing them.

Which video issues started before the CCs? Your description is a little too vague to be useful.

I didn't touch the card for many hours after the cable guy was in on Friday. It's now Sunday and it keeps dropping channels. The video issue started by dropping the graphics and replacing with just grey showing the Tivo menus without the background. From there it just got worse with live TV becoming the background and then the lockups. Only a reboot would bring it back to the norm. I just stuck the native hard drive back in and am doing the wizard and keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks again for the help.

OK, now the video seems to be holding, but needs further testing. My wife will give it a workout. The problem now is card #1 only has a few HD channels and 02 through 20 of the basic channels. Should I wait or call the Cablevision?

Do a Settings -> Reboot first.

If that doesn't fix it, it sounds like Cablevision only activated one of your CableCards.

This seems to be the norm rather than the exception with the cable guy getting the cards paired... Last one out to my house wanted to pair both cards at the same time... I nearly booted him out the door, til I showed him the instructions that came with the Tivo for the "installers"...

BTY, what version of software does the account setting indicate ?

Thanks to all who assisted. After two phone calls to Cablevision I'm up and running. $50.00 for nothing as I had to do it over again on the phone anyway. I'm at 817Cxxx I believe. Should I worry about 91xxx?

It appears I had an authorization issue on card #1 and also a bad copy of the original hard drive. (video issues)

Thanks again!

Last question, I'm now getting all my channels on both tuners, but the black screen pops up every once in a while asking me to contact the cable company if I want to use the device.

I guess I should invite the cable guy back on Friday when I'm home?

Take a look at your System Information screen. Do you have software v8.x or 9.1?

Your Host & Data do not match what the cable company has on file. This screen will come up whenever you go to a channel with copy protection enabled. Check on that screen and you will see it will say validation : unknown. It needs to go to valid.

Either call up cablevision and have them check the host and data again or get them to come out and do it.

Ah, I used to get that every so often with my SA cards when I was on Time-Warner, though it'd pop up randomly while watching a program (no channel change). Good to know there's a reason for it...
