Tivo Freezing Up

3753 Views 6 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  RJSmoker
8 months ago, Charter installed a tuner adapter. I have had no problems until about a month ago. Now my Tivo freezes up frequently. Particularly annoying is when I have set a recording only to discover that Tivo locked up before the recording completed. This happens most often with live sports programs. I am really getting fed up since this problem defeats the whole purpose of paying for Tivo. I may have to bring the stupid Charter DVR down from upstairs and quit paying for Tivo. (My current software version is 11.0k.01-2-648)

I also have lots of pixalation and missing channels.

External hard drive?
What happens when you try without using the tuning adapter, does it still freeze?

You may have a failing drive. You can upgrade it up to a 1Tb drive (1.26Tb max.) Easiest method is using WinMFS from mfslive.org. Their MFS Live, you would need to make a CD to boot from and type Linux type commands.

Well ... actually the easiest method is to buy a pre-imaged plug-in hard drive, from DVR_DUDE on eBay or Weaknees.com. You can go to 2TB with these. The DIY methods are cheaper although if you end up having to by Instant Cake to get an image, you spend almost as much as if you bought from DVR_DUDE.
I don't believe 2 Tb will work on the S3 OLED (648) TiVo.

I believe they will. Take a look at this **DVR_DUDE offering**.

I seem to remember weaknees.com offers a 2TB for the 648 also.
Not sure if there's a DIY method for this yet.
I installed a new 1 Tb hard drive about a year ago and have had no problems until recently. Today the golf match recording froze after 26 minutes but I discovered that I actually had lost the golf channel. (I'm rebooting now. Rebooting sure takes a lot longer than it used to!)

I'll try by-passing the tuning adapter but I know I will lose a lot of channels when I disconnect.
