I'm trying to resurrect my old TiVo DT - it has a video output problem. Oddly, I haven't found anyone else that has had this problem, so I might be out of luck.

The video output has had 'noise bars' for quite some time, but it records fine, and transferred shows have no problem. The noise bars affect all output (including the TiVo menus), and they appear on both the RF output and the Composite output.

The bigger problem is that the video eventually fades away over time (likely a heat-related issue), and at that point I can't see anything on the screen.

I have swapped power supplies with another working DT, and the problem remains, so I doubt the power supply is the issue.

So, is it finally time to retire that TiVo (especially since there is no longer a specific place here to even discuss Series2 TiVos)?

Could be an issue on the motherboard? S2DT is Cap Plague era, I think. Not sure how the RF modulator works (if it just takes the composite output, or if it has it's own video path). Maybe try S-video?

Yep, it’s time. Have it cremated, then have a nice ceremony and scatter the ashes.

I have one in suspended animation in my basement, since 2009 when I replaced it with a TiVo HD.

I'm trying to keep a few series2 TiVos alive for recording purposes. I (currently) have DirecTV, so the newer TiVos (HD, Bolt) are only OTA. The 140s and 240s just can't cut the number of DTV channels, so the other S2s are used for misc recording some stuff (at SD).

And now my HDs are failing (but that is a topic for another thread ). And I finally retired my first TiVo (a 140 that ran with the original 40hr hard drive for nearly 15 years!!!)
