G'day

Does anyone have a method of getting tivo desktop to start when I start my MAC computer.
Everything works fine manually. Coms between tivo and mac are good.
If Tivo desktop is started when I shutdown mac then it is also started when I reboot. Tivo can see the computer in now playing list, but there is nothing shown in the location. I need to restart tivo desktop.

Would love a way of starting / restarting tivo desktop on mac at startup.

Thanks

You are talking about the free one right that is in system preferences? It should be running all the time unless you stop it once its installed....

If you are talking the roxie one there is a setting....

If it's like the version that runs on Windows--

Launch Tivo Desktop

Go to the options in the top of the screen

Services/Tivo Server Properties/Start the TiVo Server when... checkbox

That way it'll run whenever you turn on the computer whether you launch TiVo Desktop or not.

There should also be a setting in there somewhere about how big a resource hog to allow it to be, but they'll call it something like "how heavily do you use this computer?".

Click System preferences.
Click Tivo Desktop
Click OK
Click Start
It stays on all the time unless you hit "Stop"
Thnks to you all for your input.
The message I got from this is that the Tivo desktop should not need to be restarted.

After a little investigation I have now realised my problem.
It is not with the Tivo desktop because the music and photo options were working fine, not the video.

I realised that I had changed the location for the video folder to an external usb drive in the settings. The external drive must get mounted after tivo desktop has started so it cannot find the drive location. The Tivo desktop is fine when I use the default hard drive location.

Problem now, I want to point to the external drive so that I do not clog up my hard drive with films.

Thank you

The message I'm getting from this is that you can't set TiVo Desktop to start automatically when that Mac boots up, but have to start it manually each time (you realize this is all going to eventually culminate in the TiVo having it's own always-on computer, don't you?).

You can change in which partition, and therefore in which drive, TiVo Desktop expects the "My TiVo Recordings" folder/directory to be. If you try to point it to a location where a folder of that name already exists, it's not smart enough to use it, but will complain that there's already a folder there by that name, so change the folder name first, let it create a new one, then move all the files from the old, renamed folder to the one TiVo just created. It will accept the files as though it had created them itself, which, actually it did if you think about it. You can even copy files (shows) from a Tivo Desktop installation on one computer to an installation on another computer, but they have to have originally been recorded on a TiVo with the same Media Access Key as the one you entered when you installed TiVo Desktop.

Thanks for the input unitron.
There is no problem with Tivo Desktop starting up as long as it uses a location on the macs internal HD. Any location is ok.
My problem is that the location that Tivo Desktop is looking for, when it is starting on login, has not mounted yet. It is a permanently attached usb external 1TB. There are 600gig of films and shows ready for viewing, too much to have on my system HD (250gig).
I just need to do one of two things.
a. make the disk mount before tivo is started.
or
b. stop and restart Tivo Desktop on computer login

Cheers
