I just installed Desktop 2.5. Tivo sees my computer and most of the videos in the MyTivo folder. There are a couple of videos it doesn't see.

When I try to transfer a video from the computer to Tivo, Tivo gives me an error message that there was a problem transferring the video and asks me to go to Recorded History to see why it didn't record. The videos are avi, mpeg and wmv. When I look in Recorded History, the reason given for not recording the video is that it can't be found on the computer. The videos show up on the Tivo screen under my computer's name, but when I go to transfer them, tivo can't find them.

I tried transferring from Tivo to my computer. It looked like it was transferring, but when I tried to play it after it completed, nothing played.

Suggestions please!

Thanks for your help!

Even with TiVo desktop PLUS...

Only AVI files compressed with the Divx codec will work.
Other avi video formats (Cinepak, MJPEG, Indeo etc...) won't work at all.

EDIT: I was totally wrong about wmv files.
I didn't think they were supported but they do work with the Plus upgrade.

MPEG files are a bit tricky.
You should be able to transfer and view mpeg (.mpg) video files even without the PLUS upgrade to TiVo desktop.
The problem is the MPEG1 file has to be encoded in just the right way to work properly, Plus or no plus. I don't know off hand what the specific encoding requirements are but the resolution, framerate, audio codec, etc.. all have to be exactly right.

I think there is a problem with the Tivo Desktop 2.5. I had the same problem last week. I spent hour and a half with Tivo Tech support last Saturday doing whatever they asked me to try and still couldn't transfer the mpgs.

Someone mentioned a PLUS Key. Is that something I need in addition to version 2.5? I didn't see anything about it on the TIVO site.

Are there any specific ports that need to be open for Tivo to see the My Tivo Folder?

The error I'm getting says that Tivo can't find the files on my computer, which is odd since they show up on the Tivo screen under my computer's name.

Regarding video formats that are compatible with Tivo, Tivo lists the following on their site as being compatible in version 2.5:

Supported video formats include:

Note: Files with digital rights management (DRM) or other copy protection are not supported.

Windows Media Video (.wmv)

QuickTime Movie (.mov)

MPEG-4/H.264 (.mp4,.m4v,.mp4v)

MPEG-2 (.mpg,.mpeg,.mpe,.mp2,.mp2v,.mpv2)

DivX and Xvid (.avi, .divx)

Is there anything additional to version 2.5 that needs to be installed for Tivo to be able to transfer the above formats?

Thanks for your help.

I have question so with 2.5 you can take a video off your computer music video or movie and transfer it to Tivo and watch it if it's in the right format? Cause I have 2.3a on both my computers and never upgraded one cause my desktop is Vista 32 bit and as long as it works I don't want to mess with it. But my laptop has XP so I may try the 2.5 if that is a new feature. But I am going to get the plus soon cause I am getting a portable video player next week that uses mpeg4.

Also I am getting a portable video player next week. I was wanting this Archos 605 Wi Fi that is coming out on 9/1. I was told it took mpeg4. I know with plus I can convert to mpeg 4 but on Tivo's website it says what portable devices it is compatible with and it doesn't list the brand I am getting Archos. I hope it still works as long as it's in mpeg4.

Also does anyone know my new pc came with Roxio 9 everytime I try to burn this one Tivo show to DVD it locks up. It says it's transferring or something and one thing says 20% and then it says something about temprary files 5% and both times I've tried it it locks up at the same point. Tivo was asking me if my burner was plus minus or just one and not both I didn't know. Burner came with my new HP Vista pc. Do I need Roxio Creator 9 Suite and is it maybe because I have the basic. Roxio said Basic will work. I don't know.

Edit: Ok I did a search on my computer on line and it says this about my burner

Optical Drive Type DVD±RW Dual Layer

Optical Drive Read Speed 16x (DVD) • 40x (CD)

Optical Drive Write Speed 40x (CD-R) • 16x (DVD+R) • 8x (DVD+R Dual Layer) • 4x (DVD-R Dual Layer)

Optical Drive ReWrite Speed 32x (CD-RW) • 8x (DVD+RW) • 6x (DVD-RW) • 5x (DVD-RAM)

So does that mean mine is + and - it says it's a dual layer. I bought DVD+R 16X speed and someone at work said they make + and - DVD's and I had no clue this is my 1st burner. I just wonder why my program freezes on burning a Tivo show at the same spot every time I try. But I am getting ready to buy plus desktop since I am buying a portable media player so maybe it would be better for me to covert it then burn it? Rose

I have a similar problem, and I purchased the Desktop Plus 2.5 key. I get an error message saying it is having problem transferring the video, and directs me to go to recorded history.

I am trying to transfer Divx files from my PC to my Tivo. I've tried several different Divx files, so its not just a single bad file. No file is transferring...

Anyone resolve this problem?

yes, i did. i used tivo.net, and its free. i also got the error message about checking the recording history, so i decided to try a different program rather than bang my head against the wall tryiing to make ttg work. sure was a fast fix.

But tivo-net won't install on Vista Premium (it returns error message 2869)
