When I try to install this I get the foloowing error:

And then it closes. Ihave scoured the internet for cluse or answers. Can anyone here help me fix this? I have tredi teh zappe program as well as ripping anything tivo out of my registry and file system.

Did you install the patch fix first?

If you have already upgraded from Windows XP To Vista with TiVo Desktop 2.4 installed, you must run this utility before installing Desktop 2.5.

I did not upgrade from Vista to XP. Always been on XP. Shoudl I run the patch anyways?

Ah - wait - yes that is the utility I already ran. It had no effect on anything.

The only other thing if you removed every entry from you registry that says "tivo desktop" would be to first install a lower version i.e. 2.3 first and then try to install the version 2.5. When you install the 2.5 it will tell you to remove the 2.3 first. I had to do this to get mine to connect although I never had a problem installing it. Is it possible your download is corrupt? Try downloading it again.

I don't think it is available anymore. Send me a private message with your email and I will send you a copy. I may have to rename if your email doesn't accept exe files. If this version doesn't work then you have a larger conflict installing any version of tivo desktop. I may not be able to send it until tomorrow.

Did any of this Voodoo work?

After two months I tried to watch a ToGo recording on my PC, no go. No obvious things seems to fit it. I first upgraded to Windows Media Play 11, still just an error when trying to play videos. Then I tried to upgrade Desktop to 2.5 from 2.2a or some such, only to get the error described above. I get the getfp:0x001c error. All Windows XP. FYI - for some reason in 2.2a when I selected upgrade from the Help menu it always said I had the latest software. Hmmm.

I hate it when while in the process of trying to fix a problem (can't watch a ToGo file) I run into another (can't upgrade to 2.5).

I had the same problem. I was trying to install while connected to my pc via a remote desktop connection. Once I got home and tried again, it worked.

Thank you. I've had a new computer since last November and hadn't bothered getting around to installing TiVo Desktop or Galleon or anything until just now. I ran into the same error, arrived here from a Google search, and sure enough I was trying to install it while logged in via Remote Desktop. Like yourself once I logged directly onto the machine I installed without a problem.

I was hoping the MP3-indexing/playback options might have become richer since I last gave it a go, but wow, no such luck. I suppose it's back to Galleon if I want anything more than the minimal-possible functionality.

I don't know if my issue is the same as the one being discussed currently. I have XP Pro operating system. I tried to download the Tivo Desktop 2.5 and it gave me the error that the Tivo Recording Files folder had been deleted....and asked me to select the current folder, or create a new folder....hit OK and it just looped me around. Called support and he suggested that I uninstall and reinstall. I have not reinstalled yet...thought I would get the same problem. I was downloading from Tivo's web page.
Any help???

I've been using Tivo desktop version 2.5.1 for some time. I downloaded a newer version, which told me to uninstall the existing one first.
THAT'S when i started getting the "getfp:0x001c" error message. I can't uninstall the existing version.
Incidentally, I'm on Windows XP.

I realize this doesn't help you solve your problem, but maybe it will give somebody else a clue that will help solve this.
