Tivo box recommendation

Hello all, First time poster.

I need some help on choosing a dvr for our dtv service. Most DTV DVRs from the reviews I have read sound very hard to deal with as far as speed and GUIs. So I'm looking at Tivo for service and was wondering if the Series2 DT DVR 80 hour will work ok. I am not using HD yet, so I thought this would be a good choice. I am just looking for the simple DVR features. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Any series2 DirecTV with Tivo will work fine for you. The problems you have read about are with later models of DirecTV receivers. With no current need for HiDef you are in a great position since the DirecTV with Tivo standard definition platform is mature, very high-performing.

Since you haven't asked, I take it you have a source to buy one. Hopefully you shouldn't really have to pay much as there must be tens of thousands of them around from Tivo users who have gone on to HiDef.

Edited to add: Sorry I didn't pick up the "DT" (dual tuner) in your post. That's not a "DirecTV with Tivo," as has been pointed out. Personally I think it is a poor choice to use with DirecTV and I would use a "DirecTV with Tivo" series 2 as I discussed.
Redux's answer is correct, but it assumes you realize there is a difference between a TiVo and a DirecTV Receiver with TiVo service. This reply refers to the latter, which, if you can find a good one (they are NOT available from D*, but must be purchased used from eBay or similar) is the best way to go.

Your question about the S2 DT TiVo is therefore a slightly different answer. Yes, it will work, but you will only be able to record the program you are watching unless you have a second source, so the second tuner will more than likely be redundant. This is why a D* receiver with TiVo is better - with two tuners both available, it CAN record two shows at once and even allow you to watch a third, pre-recorded show.
Go get a Directvo from Sansung selling new on the Circuit City Website for $79.
Hey guys thanks for the recommandations and advice. The DTV with TIVO box sounds like a winner for me. Could you recommend some models that might be good. I took a look at the samsung model and not many seemed to like it.

Thanks again.
Any of the series 2 DirecTV DVRs with Tivo are functionally the same (except for hard drive size). Find one with a good price and be happy.
