I got a renewed Bolt VOX a couple of weeks ago after a hard drive failure (this was my 2nd Bolt drive failure). Now I'm having a problem with IR. This did not occur with 2 prior Bolts or with a Roamio that I still have. It seems like it must be a hardware issue with this renewed Bolt OR maybe it's due to newer software release. Bolt shows Software Version 20.7.4b.RC3-USC-11-849. I am on TE3 because I like it better than TE4. I do see some threads about IR/RF issues, but they don't describe the same problem as mine, nor are they recent.

When I use the remote in RF, the problem does not occur. But generally, I use a Harmony remote which uses IR. So that the Harmony is not complicating the issue, I am using the original Tivo Bolt remote in IR mode. I have another identical remote, and the behavior is the same, so the problem is not due to a bad remote or batteries.

Here's the problem. Sometimes when I press a button, it is not "seen" by the Bolt. I know this because the yellow light on the Bolt does not light. But the red light on the remote does light. Merely pressing the button a second time works. The problem is intermittent. There is no specific time or button that always causes the button to be "lost". But it certainly happens enough to be quite annoying. I could simply be hitting Guide or Tivo or any other button. Hitting it again always works, I think.

I'm wondering if someone else can reproduce this on their Bolt. To be alike, please be on that same release mentioned above. And TE3, since I haven't tried this with TE4.

One way to reproduce it is to hold down the Tivo button. It will bounce back and forth between My Shows and something in the My Shows list. For me, it might take 10-20 bounces before it stops reacting to the button. (It has sometimes done up to 30 bounces, but that's unusual). When it stops, the remote still has the red light on since I'm still holding the Tivo button down, and the yellow light on the Bolt is off, indicating it is not seeing a command.

Another way to see it is to hold down the channel down while in Guide. Mine stops moving down the channel guide within a few seconds, but it might be up to 20 seconds. (You can also hold down channel up or down while in any list, reversing when getting to the bottom or top).

It would be great if someone else also sees this behavior. Then I could call Tivo support and describe it. But if I'm the only one, I guess I have to assume this is another defective Bolt. Ugh.

I know that this is a simple question and that you raised the topic briefly, but how is your remote's battery power? (You can check the battery level under the TiVo box's Settings & Messages/Help/Account & System Info./System Info. screen, a couple of pages down.) I have found that when I have a remote issue, it typically has been the result of low battery power, at a 20% battery level or below. I might try replacing the remote's batteries with some fresh alkaline batteries or above, and see if the issue recurs.

I use Lithium. They display 100% until they display 90%. I know that gives me under a week before my AVR & TV stop working. They die a quick death.

I use Alkaline batteries, currently Duracell. They are at 90%. Do either of the posters above have a Bolt so that you can see if this occurs? I'd sure like to hear from someone who has one and has tested it. Thanks.

EDIT: I forgot to mention the Harmony remote, which is how I first saw this problem. It uses a CR2032 battery, which usually lasts about a year in the remote. It is probably only a month or two old.
