I have a Tivo Bolt with a 2TB hard drive (replaced the internal HD) and 4 tuners. I have 64% space used on the drive (according to the figure at the top of "My Shows"), a figure I have kept it at for a considerable amount of time now, since I manually delete shows I have watched and no longer want to keep.

In the last day, there have suddenly been a LOT of shows going onto the “going away soon” list for deletion. These are shows which I do NOT want to delete yet but since I have never before had an issue with the TIVO having to start deleting shows due to it needing space, I have never marked them KUID. Now I am having to go through each show on the list and manually marking them KUID one at a time. Since there are quite a lot of shows, this is quite tedious.

I have several questions:

A - Why is this suddenly happening now? As I mentioned previously, I keep the amount of space available on the HD at a constant level to prevent this from happening and also, there are not that many new shows on the TO DO list scheduled to be recorded in the near future.

B - Is there a way to globally change all the shows on the GAS list to KUID? As I mentioned previously, there are quite a lot of them and they are shows I haven’t watched yet.

C – Is there a way to globally permanently delete the already deleted shows on the “recording activity list”? There are many pages on that as well which could be permanently deleted to free up space also but which have to be done so one at a time manually now.

D - Are shows that are deleted via GAS permanently deleted or are they placed on the "Recording Activity List" as recoverable?

I wish that Tivo would place a yellow button next to the GAS heading on the TOP or MAIN “My Shows” list instead of just having the button show up on the lower level list. Just having the heading show up when shows are added to the TOP list is not enough to get the user’s attention and as it is currently designed, shows can start getting deleted before you notice that they have been marked with the yellow button on the lower level list. At least give us the option of having the yellow button displayed on the top list.

One last comment, I do in fact mark many shows that I have already viewed as KUID and have some “one passes” marked that way as well. Some of the shows that are now appearing on the GAS list actually WERE created with “one passes” already marked as KUID. I can only assume that those were shows that were created by the “one pass” BEFORE I marked the “one pass” as KUID.

They are not going to be Deleted until space is Needed, and only when Recently Deleted folder is empty, followed by suggestions if enabled.

That yellow dot is normal and will appear after 3 days. Use KUID sparingly as when the drive gets full recording stops.

This is a common question asked.

Just a quick note. The storage figures do not include programs in the Recently Deleted folder. It could be empty (physically full drive) or have hundreds of programs in it. Scroll down to the end and you will see the first program to die if the drive does become full. I never use KUID, always set Keep At Most = All and watch my Deleted Programs folder. (never scroll up - just go Back then Right - you always start at the top). I never see yellow dots, but if you use apps like pyTiVo Desktop they will display them based on date. When I see my last program killed in the Deleted Programs Folder I kill the whole month (just hit Clear & confirm). For a 2TB drive that may be about 200 programs. I do this monthly. It's really one of the things TiVo does right.

One of the changes I like in TE4 is how you can clear out the recently deleted recording.
No need to delete shows individually like in TE3.
Go to My Shows > highlight Recently Deleted Recording > press clear > press select to confirm and everything in there is deleted.

Thanks for all of the responses. There is still something I am missing or not getting however and I still a little confused. There have been several references both on here and in the Tivo documentation to the My Shows>AllShows>Recently Deleted Recordings folder. This is from the Tivo Knowledge Base:

>>TiVo BOLT Series & TiVo Roamio Series on TiVo Experience 4 (software version 21.x.)

  1. From TiVo HOME > MY SHOWS > ALL SHOWS > RECENTLY DELETED RECORDINGS
  2. Highlight the program that you want to delete and press SELECT.
  3. In the Deleted Program screen, select PERMANENTLY DELETE.
  4. You are asked Do you want to permanently delete this recording? Select YES.<<

I am on TE4 - software level 21.9.2.v4-USC-11-849 and I simply cannot find a folder by this name. I have placed photos of my screens in order below. In order for me to get to recently deleted folders, I have to go to Menu>Manage>Recording Activity which then shows me the recently deleted shows. On that screen, there is only an option to undelete a deleted show but none to permanently delete it, at least that I can find.

The 4th screen below shows the break between the already deleted shows and the next to be deleted shows which is what I assume you are referring to when you mention "first program to die" in your "Deleted Programs" folder. So, what is called "Deleted Programs Folder" on some systems seems to be called "Recording Activity" on mine. Also, the list of programs apparently next to be deleted on that screen bears no resemblance to the next to be deleted on the "going away soon" screen (5th screen below).

I have gone ahead and deleted more shows on my own and have also decided to cancel some One Passes in order to cut back on the number of programs flowing into and back out of the Tivo without me getting a chance to watch them.

"Going Away Soon" does not mean tomorrow or any day. It only means "When Tivo needs the space" for future recordings within about 3 days.

"Going Away Soon", "Will be Deleted within 3 days" Are not really true. Check on Monday and Air Disasters: 'The plane That Flew too F' will still be there unless -
- You delete it.
- There is no space available (the % gets to 100).
- The One Pass that is recording the series "Keep at most" limit has been reached.

This misleading message has been that way since the the Sears 2 (maybe even the Series 1)
I have recordings on my Bolt that have been listed as "Will be Deleted" for over 2 years.
